A 4-year-old girl from Massachusetts used a hot day to her advantage to help raise money for a personal cause.Alex Kyrpych, a Medfield resident, set up an Italian ice stand in Westwood on Sunday as a fundraiser for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of New England.The Italian ice stand was open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the community greenspace at Colby Way.Alex received a lot of help from her mother, Carolyn, who has ulcerative colitis and recently had emergency surgery to remove her colon.The New England chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation serves Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont by funding research, raising awareness and providing education and support to inflammatory bowel disease patients, including those with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and their caregivers.There are more than 130,000 adults and children suffering from inflammatory bowel disease in New England alone.
