Rogets Illusion by Linda Bierds (Marian Wood Books, $27.95). Bainbridge Island poet and MacArthur genius grant winner explores the work of Peter Mark Roget and other knowledge-seekers to discover and relay the persistence and need of humans to untangle the unexplained and make sense of the world.

Buddhist Biology by David P. Barash (Oxford University Press, $29.95). Barash, a University of Washington psychology professor, writes about how Buddhism, with its focus on environmental protection and social responsibility, derives from biological realities. Biology, he argues, is Buddhist friendly.

Giving the Finger: Risking it all to Fish the Worlds Deadliest Sea by Scott Campbell Jr. (Lyons Press, $26.95). Campbell, a Bering Sea fishing-vessel captain who was center stage during the popular The Deadliest Catch, TV program, recounts some of the issues not seen on television, such as following his fathers footsteps, weathering a stormy home life and enduring severe injuries. He lives in Walla Walla.

The Rain Dragon Rescue by Suzanne Selfors and illustrated by Dan Santat ((Little, Brown, $16). For ages 9-12: Selfors continues her Imaginary Veterinary series with this third offering. The young apprentices find themselves caring for a dragon, which has been stealing loot from local residents. The author lives on Bainbridge Island.
