Flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir is set to have two industrial biotechnology parks that would help contribute to the states economic growth, using natural resources found in abundance in the hill state.

Detailed plans on the first biotechnology park would be announced on Sunday at Jammu whereas the second park would be set up in Srinagar later after the flood water recedes and normalcy is restored. The state government has allocated 10 acres of land for each of these biotechnology parks at the State Industrial Development Corporation Area.

The parks, incidentally, were approved by the department of biotechnology in a meeting in Delhi on September 4 a day after Jammu and Kashmir was struck by the calamity. The Jammu unit will work on medicinal plants, whereas Srinagars priority would be aromatic herbs.

The Centre, however, is yet to approve the financial package for these two biotech parks for which Rs 35 crore has been proposed by the state officials and parks technical partners, reliable sources in the science ministry told Deccan Herald.
