DAP Wanita says Ismas rational that women are genetically engineered to be homemakers is also irrational and unfounded.

GEORGE TOWN: DAP Wanita has slammed a recent statement by Dr Fatimah Zaharah Rosli of Isma that women are predisposed to being mothers and homemakers simply because it is in their DNA.

In a statement, Syerleena Abdul Rashid, DAP Wanitas Political Education Director in Bukit Bendera said that Isma made a bad move by making such a baseless statement that clearly discriminated against women.

Dr Fatimah Zaharahs claim that women are genetically engineered to assume pre-supposed gender roles is shockingly irrational and unfounded.

Offering a possible scientific reason why Dr Fatimah may have this mindset, Syerleena said research had proven that some women experienced internalised sexist attitudes towards other women if they themselves lived in male dominated communities.

Syerleena added, Consequently, these women may adapt such attitudes as a protective mechanism stemming from rigid gender roles that further reiterate gender discrimination.

Describing Dr Fatimah as a regrettable product of extreme patriarchal social structures, Syerleena also accused Dr Fatimah and her organisation Isma of preventing women and girls from realising their full potential.

The hostility this organisation has shown towards Malaysian women is sexism in its lowest form, perpetrated by women aimed to demean other women.

Syerleena also tore apart Dr Fatimahs theory that all the problems teens faced today like accidental pregnancies, early marriages and drug addiction were due to the absence of a mother figure at home, saying it was rather brash.

Syerleena cited the multitude of other contributory reasons such as genetic, psychological, environmental factors, trauma, family problems, sexual or physical abuse that resulted in drug addiction while poor or non-existent sex education were leading causes of accidental pregnancies.
