STONE Roses star Ian Brown was branded a 'liar' by his own old classmate yesterday (Mon) - who said claims made by the pop singer in court 'never happened.'

The pop star, 51, claimed when he was 11 years-old old his then biology teacher, TV weatherman Fred Talbot, set them 'masturbation' homework and made them watch a gay porn film.

Now a man who sat next to Brown in those first-year lessons has told the jury it 'never happened' as the millionaire superstar suggested, adding: "Not at all - it just did not occur."

Talbot, 65, of Bowdon, Cheshire, denies 10 historic indecent assaults on five schoolboys aged 16 or under, going back to the late 1960s to the early 1980s.

Graham Ford, 51 - speaking via a video link from his home in Ohio, US - said: "I sat next to Ian Brown in those biology classes. He was introverted and quite shy then.

"In our first year Mr Talbot taught us the facts of life in a very professional, calm and respectful way."

Suzanne Goddard QC, defending Talbot, asked the sports coach: "Did he instruct the boys how to masturbate or to go home and do it?"

Mr Ford told Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court: "No not at all."

Ms Goddard added: "Did he ever show your class gay pornography?"
