Patient Services

Using cutting edge technology and the latest clinical research, UHealth cardiovascular specialists provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for patients. Because UHealth is a university-based health system, heart patients are able to take advantage of breakthrough procedures and clinical trials only offered at University of Miami Hospital.

UHealth physicians were the first in Florida to replace a diseased aortic valve without performing open heart surgery. This procedure called transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has given hope and a renewed quality of life for hundreds of heart patients.

UHealth was also the first in the state to offer patients a clinical trial using their own stems cells to heal their hearts. These and many other breakthroughs define the level of skill and expertise of UHealth cardiovascular specialists.

In addition to general cardiology services, there is a wide array of multidisciplinary specialized programs.

At age 85, Rhoda Cohen suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with a aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the aortic valve. Because of her age and medical condition, traditional open heart valve replacement surgery was not an option. The UHealth team performed a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) replacing Rhodas aortic valve through a minimal incision in her chest.

Today, Rhoda is healthy and enjoying lifes important milestones like her grandsons graduation from medical school.
