JACQ Kelly, who suffers from eye disease retinitis pigmentosa, was walking with her white stick in Edinburgh when the 6ft stranger punched her in the shoulder.

A BLIND charity worker has told how she was punched in the street by a thug trying to impress his girlfriend.

Jacq Kelly, 34, was walking with her white stick in the Dalry area of Edinburgh when the 6ft stranger suddenly punched her hard in the shoulder and started laughing.

She said it was one of dozens of hate incidents she has experienced over the past three years due to her disability.

Jacq suffers from eye disease retinitis pigmentosa, meaning she is severely visually impaired and will eventually go completely blind.

She said: I was walking along the street when suddenly I sensed something flash in front of my face and felt something smack into my shoulder.

It was as if he wanted to see if Id move. Then he walked off laughing with his girlfriend as if he was trying to impress her.

He was going for my face but I moved just in time.

The attack has left her shaken and afraid.
