SINGAPORE - An Indonesian man undergoing facelift surgery at Camden Medical Centre has been declared brain dead.

Doctors at an aesthetic clinic at the centre sent him to Gleneagles Hospital on Thursday, reported Chinese broadsheet Lianhe Zaobao on Saturday.

When reporters called the clinic, unnamed in the report, on Friday morning, the person they spoke to evaded their questions and ended the call hastily.

Accordingly to a profile on the clinic's website, the doctor who carried out the surgery has many years of experience and training in aesthetics.

However, according to Singapore Medical Council records, he is classified as a general practitioner.

This case comes on the heels of two botched and fatal aesthetic operations.

In 2009, Franklin Heng, the head of a property firm, died from accidental punctures to his intestines, during a liposuction operation performed by family physician Jim Wong.

The doctor, who operated from an Orchard Road clinic, was banned from doing liposuction after a coroner's inquiry into Mr Heng's death.

Dr Wong and another doctor who assisted in the procedure are also facing claims of over $1 million from the estate of the victim, who was divorced with two young children.

In a separate case last June, Mandy Yeong, 44, died following her liposuction procedure at a Clarke Quay clinic.
