The Braves took over sole possession of first place in the conference this weekend as they claimed a 47-32 win in Mountain View on Friday night and a 59-43 victory in Lyman on Saturday afternoon.

I like what were doing right now, said head coach Tony Saras. Were shooting pretty well; looking for each other and dictating the tempo.

In Mountain View, the offense was harder to come by than it has been in recent weeks, but the team still managed a 15-point win for their tenth victory on the season. It was a game where the Braves bench tallied 16 of the teams 27 first half points.

Byron [Anderson], Tanner [Harris]; DJ [Sims], they played really well in that game and they do what we expect them to do which is score and contribute within the framework of our offense,Saras added. Our guys work hard and they make a difference in these games.

Dalton Passey was the lone Brave in double figures with a game-high 13 to go with seven rebounds. Sims finished with nine points and Wyatt Shinaver chipped in eight. Austin Valentine, Anderson and Harris each had five in the balanced effort.

On Saturday, the top-ranked Braves went up against the #2 Lyman Eagles on the Uinta County court. The rankings are provided by the Wyopreps.com coaches and media poll and had Star Valley as a unanimous #1 this past week.

However, the Eagles jumped out to a 9-0 lead to begin the game but were unable to contain the Braves who outscored them 59-34 from that point onward. The biggest statement took place in the final quarter as the crimson & gold expanded a two-point lead and compiled 26 fourth-quarter points to close out the game.

Kohl Battleson, who terrorized the Eagles with 21 points on the same court a year ago, scored 14 of his 15 in the second half while Shinaver followed suit with ten of his 16 in the final two periods. Trace Haderlie also picked apart the Lyman defense with several deft passes in the second half and finished with nine points and six rebounds to go with three assists. Passey, who was feeling under the weather, still managed seven points and eight rebounds. Lymans Kyle Stokes had the game high of 19 points and Cisco Taylor added 14 but no other Eagle had more than four.

After spending ten of their seasons 14 games on the road, Star Valley will enjoy a pair of snow-laden home games this weekend as they host Powell and Cody on Friday and Saturday respectively. The Braves came away with a surprising 20-point win in Powell back in early December and needed some clutch shooting to survive a 46-40 overtime victory in Cody.

Weve been on the road a lot and weve been working hard, Saras concluded. This team is doing a lot of good things and theyre fun to watch so I hope we can have a big crowd come out to watch them this weekend and really pack our place.
