The Firm is currently investigating Pradaxa lawsuits on behalf of individuals who suffered life-threatening internal bleeding, allegedly due to Pradaxa side effects.

New York, New York (PRWEB) April 24, 2013

We continue to hear from Pradaxa users who have allegedly suffered serious and life-threatening episodes of internal bleeding. In light of the allegations put forth in Pradaxa lawsuits, news of the drugs blockbuster status is concerning. It is important that patients being considered for Pradaxa therapy be fully apprised of the risks associated with its use, says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal evaluations to victims of alleged Pradaxa side effects.

Pradaxa Side Effects

Pradaxa was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2010 to prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation. While Pradaxa was touted as an improvement over decades-old warfarin, Bloomberg.com recently reported that regulators in several countries have issued Pradaxa side effect alerts since the drug was first brought to market. Most concerning is the fact that there exists no readily-available antidote for the internal bleeding that can sometimes occur in patients treated with Pradaxa. In 2011 alone, the FDA received reports of 542 deaths and 3,781 side-effect incidents tied to Pradaxa, Bloomberg.com said**

Dialysis can be used to remove Pradaxa from the blood stream. However, a study published last May in the Journal of Neurosurgery found this treatment is risky and may not be administered in enough time to stop this potentially deadly Pradaxa side effect.***Earlier this year, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices renewed concerns about Pradaxa bleeding, when it revealed that an analysis of hemorrhage cases reported to the FDA during the second quarter of 2012 found that Pradaxa bleeding is 5 times more likely to result in death compared to warfarin bleeding.****

Court records indicate that 428 Pradaxa lawsuits are pending in a multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois. Among other things, the lawsuits allege that Boehringer Ingelheim sold the blood thinner despite knowing it could cause fatal bleeding in some patients, and failed to adequately warn that there was no readily-available antidote for this Pradaxa side effect. According to court documents, the first trials in the Pradaxa litigation are scheduled to begin in September 2014. (In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation MDL No. 2385)

Victims of serious Pradaxa side effects may be eligible to collect compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more. Additional information is available at Bernstein Liebhard LLPs website, or by calling 1-877-779-1414 to speak with a Pradaxa lawyer today.
