It was a bittersweet Thursday evening for Star Valley basketball fans with one team losing their semi-final game and the other advancing to the title game. The Lady Braves saw their 20-game winning streak come to an end in a 44-40 loss to Rawlins while the Braves pulled away to defeat Wheatland 46-36 and go back to the title game for the first time since 2007. The Lady Outlaws outscored Star Valley 17-6 in the fourth quarter to steal the win and send the Lady Braves into the battle for third place which will take place on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The ladies will tip off against the Torrington Lady Trailblazers. The Braves will also play Torrington but it will be in the title tilt on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers blew past the Lyman Eagles to reach the final game.

Lady Braves -

Madison Forney of Rawlins scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half and Kalli Feddersen matched it with 17 of her own, including a three-point dagger with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Lady Braves tasted defeat for the first time since losing to Gillette back in mid December as part of the Flaming Gorge Classic. Hailey Greenwood led the Lady Braves with 14 points. The Lady Braves and the Lady Blazers will play at Kelly Walsh High School as part of a revamped state tourney in Casper which has been affected by the Region IX womens basketball tournament.

Braves -

Ridge Hillyard refused to let up as he led the Braves back to the title game with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Dalton Passey scored nine and pulled down seven rebounds while Tyler Ealey and Kohl Battleson each chipped in seven points. Battlesons big three-point basket to close out the third quarter gave the Braves a lead that they would not relinquish. While the offense was efficient, it was the defense that held Wheatland scoreless for over six and a half minutes in the fourth quarter. The Braves are playing in the title game in their first year back in the 3A classification after spending the last four seasons in the 4A class. Star Valleys boys won the title in 2007, their last year in 3A before the transition. Tip off is expected at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Casper Events Center.
