Osco pharmacy will close Monday

MICHIGAN CITY - The Osco pharmacy is scheduled to close Monday, just days after the Jewel-Osco corporate announcement that the Franklin Street store will close Oct. 8.

"We are letting our customers know that the pharmacy is closing Aug. 13, so they have time to make other arrangements," said Karen May, director of external communications for the supermarket chain.

On Thursday, company representatives told employees that the Jewel-Osco store will close. The announcement took employees, customers and city officials by surprise.

Jewel-Osco does not own the building. May said the decision to close was a "business decision," and no decision has been made about the future of the property.

Jewel-Osco has four other locations in Northwest Indiana, including ones in Dyer, Crown Point, Munster and Chesterton.
