NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass.A pharmacy technician at a North Attleborough drug store has been charged with stealing more than 4,000 prescription pills while on the job.

Police say 31-year-old Catherine Bryant was captured on video surveillance slipping painkillers and other pills usually prescribed to treat opiate addiction into her work smock on various days from Aug. 6 to Wednesday. Police say she had more than 40 pills in her possession when she was arrested.

She was freed on $5,000 bail after pleading not guilty at her arraignment Thursday in Attleboro District Court. The Sun Chronicle ( http://bit.ly/Omx3bg) reports that her lawyer said the number of pills reported stolen was "exaggerated."

Bryant, who has no prior arrest record, told police she suffers from lupus and stole the pills for personal use to alleviate her pain.
