Pharmacist Manny Ramirez, owner of Dichter Pharmacy, a longtime Inwood institution that is getting a new home in the neighborhood after being destroyed by fire in January, 2012.

A longtime Inwood pharmacy that was destroyed by fire more than a year ago is getting a new home just a few doors down from its former location, and the owner says it will be bigger and better with an added old-school twist.

Dichter Pharmacy, which has served residents of upper Manhattan for more than 70 years, will start anew at 4935 Broadway near W. 207th St., owner Manny Ramirez said.

Im very excited, were going back home, Ramirez told the Daily News on Thursday. Its going to be a bigger and better location.

The new store is about 25 feet away from the pharmacys original location at 4943 Broadway, he said.

Since the January 2012 fire which officials say started inside a neighboring Chinese restaurant and destroyed nine businesses the mom-and-pop pharmacy has been operating out of a tiny 300-square-foot space at 4975 Broadway.

But a month ago, Ramirez signed a lease for a 1,500-square-foot location, nearly four times the size of the original pharmacy.

Well be able to carry a much wider product mix, he said, noting plans to offer natural and organic products, as well as houseware and hardware items. My dream was always to expand and have a larger location.

Ramirez also plans to put in an old-school soda fountain, a jukebox and chrome stools, and he envisions serving ice cream and frozen yogurt.
