020913 ONE DEAD AT CONROE WALMART SHOOTING
Just before 4:30 pm Conroe Police received a call that a shooting had taken place inside the Conroe Walmart on North Loop 336. At that same time officers were being dispatched to a burglary of a motor vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart. Sgt. Smith was first on the scene and immediately called for back-up crowd control. He then found the 35-year-old male lying on the floor near the pharmacy with what appeared to be a single gunshot would to the chest. Smith immediately started CPR until MCHD arrived on the scene. EMS arrived along with additional police officers police and were unable to save the male. It has been determined that the shot was self inflicted. Nobody else was injured and there were no threats made on anyone. The deceased male who is a employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville leaves behind 3 children. His wife was an employee at the store and also attempted to save him. Witness information revealed that the couple had been having marital problems. As Conroe Police investigate Walmart remained open restricting shoppers from the north side of the store. At about 5 pm a corporate decision was made to close the store until the investigation was over and the body of the victim had been removed. As shoppers exited the store Conroe Police and Walmart loss prevention monitored the exits to prevent merchandise being taken out the doors without payment.
