Before opening Bryans Family Pharmacy in 2002 Bryan Hutcheson, a board certified pharmacist in Ohio for 30 years, worked for a chain pharmacy and became frustrated with corporate restrictions that kept him from providing patient care in the way that he saw best.

This year Bryans was named Retail Business of the Year by Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and was honored with a national award from Pharmacy Development Services naming it one of the top eight pharmacies in the country.

What the business does: Hutcheson said that along with standard prescription medications, Bryans Pharmacy also personalizes medication in their compounding lab; offers Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy services and uses the SyncRx program which synchronizes a familys prescription refills so they are all ready on the same day instead of being scattered throughout the month. They also carry homeopathic medicine, have a full line of medical equipment and orthopedic braces and carry a full line of diabetic shoes which are fitted by their staff pedorthist.

We are constantly thinking outside the box for ways to improve our patient care. Last year we began a free childrens vitamin program for all Lebanon children, Hutcheson said. We gave away 2,500 bottles that first year and hope to double that this year. We also provide one-on-one patient counseling for disease states such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity as well as immunizations for the flu, shingles, pneumonia, and provide the standard vaccines needed for college-bound kids and those who may be traveling abroad, said Hutcheson.

How the business started: My wife Mindy and I opened Bryans Family Pharmacy back in 2002 and it truly is a family pharmacy. All of our children have worked at the pharmacy during high school and some through college. We currently have three of our kids employed with us. We pride ourselves on being a neighborhood pharmacy and support our community in all facets of our business.

In the future: We have so many more programs to implement in the future. The most immediate of these are a customer rewards program, senior day every Wednesday and removing the $2 charge on our delivery service which we implemented when the gas prices went through the roof. Free delivery will return to Bryans by the end of this month.

Hours and contact and information: Bryans Pharmacy is located at 726 E Main St., Lebanon and hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Phone is (513) 228-0800.
