Kelvin Hewitt's penis was chopped off when he was attacked at a travellers camp in Teesside

The dad-of-seven whose penis was hacked off in a bloody attack is facing a lifetime of treatment.

Kelvin Kelly Hewitt, 40, has been released from hospital but looks set to undergo plastic surgery and may need hormone replacement therapy amid fears he has lost use of his testicles. As he spent his first day at home he admitted he felt wrecked.

If Kelly lacks testosterone he could suffer fatigue and mood changes and need regular injections. Kellys ex Debbie Lewis said his family were devastated when he was found by the A66 near Middlesbrough at 4.50am on March 12 hunting for his severed penis, which was never found.

But yesterday Debbies mum Christine Mclachlan said: Kelly is a tough cookie, he just gets on with things.

It is thought he was attacked at a travellers site in South Bank, Teesside. Police want to unravel the missing 11 hours before Kelly was discovered.

Suggested scenarios have included an attack on the builder by a love rival and a case of mistaken identity. A man, 22, has been arrested and bailed.
