LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) Multiple Sclerosis is a disabling disease, causing communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body.

While the disease impacts a persons every move, for one man getting treatment at La Crosses Mayo Health System, its going to take a lot more to keep him down.

Carl Hohman was diagnosed with MS in 2001. Before the diagnosis, he was an outdoorsman who sought adventure. He admits it can be daunting sitting in his chair all day, but through this journey, Carl has created a special bond with someone that cannot be broken.

Hohman goes to Mayo Clinic Health System for physical therapy several times a week and he has been doing it for years. Luckily, Annie Stoecklein, his physical therapist, has his back.

Fortunately I got a great group of people that I work with around here, everybody in the place is very supportive, Hohman said.

Hohman and Stoecklein have been working together for seven years. The connection theyve made is powerful.

He is like another father to me. Hes endlessly positive, he makes me excited to come to work, he has made me feel better on rough days and I know that Ive done the same for him, Stoeklein said.

Hohman keeps his family in mind and all the will to motivate others.

Im just happy to be with my family. Its amazing what things in life you think you need or you dont need and Im so happy to be with them. Keep a smile on your face and just go strong. Never give up, never give in, Hohman said.

Mayos rehab employees have over 1,000 combined years of experience.

The entire rehab service team consists of occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech pathology, and athletic training.
