SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Nebraska (KTIV) Specialists say Parkinsons Disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide.

To raise awareness, the Iowa State Extension and Outreach taught a class about the disease on Monday.

Specialists hosted A Journey Through Parkinsons Disease at the Norm Waitt YMCA, in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

The three-part series shares educational awareness about the symptoms of Parkinsons Disease.

Participants learned about the ways to help treat the symptoms of the disease.

Specialists say Parkinsons symptoms include anxiety, depression, difficulty standing, and fatigue.

The impact of these classes has been everything from the Parkinsons patients feeling affirmed with some of the symptoms they felt like were Parkinsons related, to there caregivers having a better understanding of saying oh well this is actually part of there Parkinsons disease and I need to have a little more empathy and sympathy regarding those symptoms, said Lori Hayungs, Family Life Specialist State Extension and Outreach.

Hayungs adds that they will continue to hold these classes in different areas around the region.
