NORFOLK The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a CPR Instructor Course beginning soon.
The course (HLTH 1720/20S & CRN #24869) will meet Wednesdays, February 5 and 19 from 6-10 p.m., and Saturday, February 22, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Class will be held in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Northeast campus.
CPR instructor training for those currently qualified in basic life support. This one-credit course includes background materials, teaching techniques and aids to enable individuals to instruct others in the knowledge of local emergency care systems, understanding risk factors, signals and actions for survival, and recognition of indications for life support and accurate performance of the same.
Class participants must have a current AHA BLS CPR card. The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop, which is located in the Library/Resources Center, (402) 844-7140.

NORFOLK The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.
Three testing sessions Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/20S & CRN #70157); Heartsaver CPR/AED Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/20S & CRN #70158); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/20S & CRN #70156) will be held Saturday, February 8, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.
The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.
The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification. This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. Online key codes for Part 1 (online course) are available at the Hawks Shop in the Library/Resource Center on the Norfolk campus, (402)-844-7140. Students will need to bring their AHA Online Course Completion Certificate (within 60 days) to be admitted to the Skills Testing Session. No textbook is required for this class.

NORFOLK The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer another Heart Code BLS for Healthcare Provider Online & Skills Session course, beginning soon.
The first portion of this course (HLTH 5300/20S & CRN #70159) is web-based and is available on-line 24 hours a day. The skills session meets Saturday, February 8, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., in Room 101 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.
The Basic Life Support course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking. This course is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.
Part 1 provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified AHA Instructor. When online Part 1 is completed, students will register for the Skills Sessions. Participants are to bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.
Online key codes for Part 1 are available at the Hawks Shop in the Library/Resource Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Participants need to bring their AHA Part 1 Health Care Provider Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

NORFOLK A class will be held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk that will teach the basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age in a long-term care facility.
There will be two opportunities to take the course beginning in February.
Nurse Aide (NURA 1110/20S & CRN #24960) will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, Februry 11-May 12, from 2-4 p.m., in the in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 115. Jill Junck is the instructor. Nurse Aide (NURA 1110/20S & CRN #24863) will be held Mondays, February 17-May 11, from 4:30-10 p.m., in the in the Arlo Wirth Building, Rooms 103/115. Lacey Moeller is the instructor.
This three credit course is designed to meet the Nebraska Health and Human Services System training requirements for nurse aide certification and employment in long-term care facilities. It combines classroom lecture and laboratory application for the development of basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age, in a long-term care facility.
Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing the examination and completing the application procedure, their names will be placed on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.
Cost of each course is $366. An additional $45 fee will be required if a student chooses to register to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam at the end of the course. The $45 fee will be required at the time of the non-credit exam registration. NORFOLK Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a series of basic computer classes on three consecutive Thursdays beginning in mid-February.
Basic Computer I (INFO 5105/20S & CRN #70273) will be held Thursday, February 13, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) on the Norfolk campus.
This class is for the person who has very limited computer knowledge or none at all. The student will be taught beginning computer skills, including powering the computer on and off, using a mouse and keyboard, utilizing the desktop, and launching programs.
Basic Computer II (INFO 5305/20S & CRN #70274) will be held Thursday, February 18, at the same time and location.
This class will review and build upon skills learned in Basic Computer I. Topics covered will include learning to use a word processor, working with tool and task bars, performing basic formatting functions, saving and printing documents.
Basic Computer III (INFO 5505/20S & CRN #70275) will be held Thursday, February 27, at the same time and location.
This class is for the person who has very limited computer knowledge. Students will continue to build upon and improve their skills with in-depth work with word processing, keyboard shortcuts and the internet.
All classes will be taught by Stacy Anderson at a very relaxed pace with significant hands-on practice. Cost of each class is $30.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/20S & CRN #70160) will be held Tuesday, February 18, from 6-10 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101.
This course is designed to refresh the knowledge of a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their certification card with them the night of the class.

Having a smooth transition when change occurs is important, especially when you are tasked with managing the reactions and the acceptance to change. In this course, Julie Younkin will help participants gain helpful insight and tools to help them, their family, their business and their business or organization successfully prepare and implement change.

WEST POINT A class hosted by the Northeast Community College West Point extended campus in February will introduce participants to beekeeping.
Beginner Beekeeping (AGRI 5120/20S & CRN #70109) will be held Thursday, February 20, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in Room #102 of the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St.
In this lectured-based class, participants will learn about beginner beekeeping. Instructor Melissa Heberer will provide an overview of a typical seasons work, honeybee life cycles, terminology and equipment needed. The goal of the class is to inspire further learning about honeybees and give participants the confidence to try beekeeping on their own.
