MORE than 130 people took part in a sport-inspired walk to raise more than 7,000 for an 11-year-old boy from Leigh with cerebral palsy who is undergoing treatment for leukaemia.

Ben Robinsons ambition is to go on holiday with his family to Jamaica.

Leigh Centurions star Dayne Weston set up the Ben's Wish charitable fund in a bid to raise the money needed to make that dream come true.

Ben is a Centurions fan as well as a Manchester City FC supporter and the latest Ben's Wish fundraiser saw walkers brave the wet weather and trek 18 miles from one club to the other on Sunday.

The Home From Home Walk began at Leigh Sports Village and ended at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester seven-and-a-half hours later.

Triple amputee war hero and author Andy Reid and Ben's friends and teacher from Newton Westpark Primary School were among those to complete the walk.

Centurions stars Dayne and Mickey Higham walked the final mile alongside Ben and his family.

Event organiser Bradley Edwards, 32, said: The amount of support we had on the day for Ben was amazing.

I think the adrenaline got people to the finishing line.

When we hit Manchester the rain was unreal. The weather was a nightmare but everyone just powered through it, which showed the determination they had.

People were helping others when they saw they were struggling, which was great to see.

There was an unbelievable spirit. Everyone was soaking wet but still had a smile on their face.

I think everyone has embraced the cause because Ben is an absolute inspiration.

Everyone was so excited and looking forward to seeing Ben for the last mile of the walk, which drove us all on.

When he saw me he rushed over and said thank you so much, which shows the type of person he is."

The graphic designer is now planning to make the fundraising walk an annual event, with participantsgoingthe opposite from Manchester to Leigh next year.
