Autism: The Son-Rise Program Teaches Socialization Rather Than Robotic Skills
http://www.autismtreatment.org - Matteo. diagnosed with autism, had learned some memorized skills in various autism treatments, but he was robotic in his behavior. The Autism Treatment Center of America trade;, founded in 1974 by Samahria Lyte Kaufman and Barry Neil Kaufman, teaches parents a unique autism treatment called The Son-Rise Program. The Son-Rise Program is a loving, accepting, home based approach that parents use to connect with their children and help them emerge from autism and other developmental disorders. It was awarded the Best Autism Therapy at the AutismOne National Conference. Annette #39;s son, Matteo, had had six years of autism therapies, when she realized that he was more like a robot than a child. He couldn #39;t initiate or decide something as simple as drinking a glass of water without a prompt from someone else. The skills he learned were by rote and not social skills. After attending The Son-Rise Program Start-Up at the Autism Treatment Center of America in Sheffield, MA they ran a full-time Son-Rise Program for Matteo in their home. The Son-Rise Program focuses first on building connection and socialization. Six months later, Matteo is initiating and asking for what he wants. He has sustained eye contact during interactions and his processing delay is completely gone. Annette and her husband learned tools to help their son and themselves.
