UW-Madisons Institute for Biology Education is expanding to create broader opportunities for students who wish to pursue studies in science fields.

The Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE) will have programs to mentor teachers in methods to help spark student interest across all ages in science fields both in and out of the classroom, according to a university release.

This expansion is a reflection of Chancellor Rebecca Blanks support of the White Houses initiative to give low-income students the opportunity of a college education, specifically in the area of science, according to the release.

Weve partnered beyond biology on higher education initiatives with faculty and staff and promoted cross-campus collaboration on science outreach for a long time, and the majority of our student programs focus on addressing the needs of underrepresented groups, WISCIENCE Director Janet Branchaw said in the statement.
