A boy with cerebral palsy from Weston-super-Mare has fulfilled his dream of riding a bike thanks to a special tricycle that gives him "pedal power".

Jacob Moore is eight years old and had been trying to learn how to ride a bike for four months, a task made all the more difficult with a lack of leg strength and core balance.

The youngster, who developed cerebral palsy at birth, was given the "Tomcat trike" by medical negligence lawyers at law firm Irwin Mitchell.

The lawyers are currently investigating the care the eight-year-old and his mother received around the time of his delivery.

The Tomcat trike is a tricycle specifically designed to support those with different physical needs, in a bid to make sure everyone can access the joys of cycling.

Jacobs mum, 31-year-old Elizabeth, said: We are absolutely delighted and so thankful to Irwin Mitchell for helping us get access to this trike.

The issues that Jacob faced with riding a bike were something Id only mentioned in passing, but Jenny and the rest of the team went away to try and see what they could do about it.

"Jacob has some memory issues but after the trial all he talked about was being able to go on it again.

We are all just over the moon with it and we think it will make a massive difference to his life and how he gets exercise. He is going to love every minute with it.

Eleri Davies, expert medical negligence lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, representing the family, said: Jacob is a very special young man and we were all greatly touched by what our client liaison manager Jenny had mentioned to us about his bike riding efforts.

We decided it may be a great idea to see how he gets on with the Tomcat trike and from the first moment of the trial he absolutely loved it.

"With Jennys help weve been able to arrange for the trike to be re-sprayed to Jacobs favourite colour of red and we were delighted to see how happy he was when we gave it to him.

We always want to do what we can to help our clients at Irwin Mitchell and people like Jenny are a core part of how we understand the needs of those we work for. We hope Jacob has hours of fun on his new toy.
