Breinholt named chief of pediatric cardiology at Childrens Memorial Hermann Hospital

Renowned pediatric cardiologist John P. Breinholt, M.D. has been named the chief of pediatric cardiology at Childrens Memorial Hermann Hospital. He will also serve as the director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School.

With his extensive expertise and work in pediatrics, and specifically in the cardiovascular area, Dr. Brienholt will be a wonderful leader to the staff and medical team here, said Eric Eichenwald, M.D., physician-in-chief at Childrens Memorial Hermann Hospital. We all look forward to working with him.

With a goal of growing the pediatric cardiology program across the Memorial Hermann Health System, Dr. Breinholt will treat various heart issues in children including aortic valve disease, atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, pulmonary valve disease, pulmonary hypertension, septal defect, tricuspid valve disease, pericardial disease, mitral valve disease, coarctation of the aorta and congenital heart disease.

Breinholt graduated from the University Of Utah School Of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Childrens Hospital. He received his pediatric cardiology training at Texas Childrens Hospital, where he also received additional training in cardiomyopathy and cardiac transplant. After completing an advanced fellowship in cardiac catheterization, he was recruited to Indiana University School of Medicine, where he was associate professor of pediatrics, director of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program, and director of education for the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.
