Brunei Cardiac Society Hosts Visit to Delegates from Asean Federation of Cardiology

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The delegation from the Asean Federation of Cardiology who were in the country to attend a scientific council was welcomed by the Brunei Cardiac Society. They will have a seminar for presidents and office bearers from Asean Countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It was launched in April of 2014 the Brunei Cardiac Society within a short period of time affiliated with the Asean Federation of Cardiology which works as a support group for the development of cardiology in the entire Asean region through exchange of ideas, expertise and supporting various educational programmes.

The tour was hosted by the President of Brunei Cardiac Society, Dato Dr. isham Jaafar and began with a visit to the Jerudong Park Medical Centres Rehabilitation Department and fitness centre.

According to a press statement from JPMC, Angiograms, simple and complex angioplasties, bypass surgeries, valve replacements, complex cardiac surgeries, devise closures were all established within ten years from the start of service. The tour concluded with a visit at the cardiac centre of RIPAS Hospital where they were welcomed by Dr. Sofian Johar, head of the cardiology department. In spite of the recent fire disaster the RIPAS cardiac centre was fully operational within 48 hours after the incident. One of the greatest milestones by RIPAS cardiologists was being the first in Asia to use the implantable loop recorder Reveal LINQ Cardiac Monitor (ICM) device and making it 80 per cent smaller than the previous one that the cardiology centre used.

The device is part of a powerful system that allows physicians to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patients heart for up to three years, with 20 per cent more data memory than its larger predecessor and additionally the invention of the Renal Denervation Programme has seen more than 2000 cardiac CT being performed.

The delegation was very impressed with the government of His Majesty in providing free health care to all citizens from basic health care to the most advance cardiac care with the most advance equipment and exceptional level of medical services. BRUDIRECT.COM
