LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The top two factors that put you at risk for developing breast cancer are being a woman and age.

Unfortunately, you can't do anything about either of those factors, but how you deal with them could play a role in your risk as well.

"Nobody in my family ever talked about this. That's one thing about my generation, us Baby Boomers, we are talking about this stuff. maybe we're a little spoiled because we want to feel better like [snap] that, but it really came down to a quality of life issue," Dr. Mindy Warren, hormone replacement therapy patient, said.

For July's WHAS11 Buddy Check sponsored by KentuckyOne Health, we're talking about hormone replacement therapy.

It's something more than half of post-menopausal women use to fight symptoms like hot flashes, but it also increases your risk of developing breast cancer.

Coming up Friday during the 4 p.m. newscast, WHAS11's Kelsey Starks will have much more with Mindy, who's mother died of breast cancer, and her decision about using hormone replacement therapy.
