Imagine if there were a simple shot to sterilize male dogs and cats rather than surgery! Shelters could finally get ahead of the overpopulation problem, and euthanasia rates would go down. Millions of dollars would be saved every month, and dogs and cats would be spared the trauma of surgery. Well, there IS such a shot! In 2010 Parsemus Foundation #39;s director got to witness demonstrations of an injectable sterilization for male dogs and cats, by the team in India that has diligently studied it for over a decade. Unlike the other injectable being developed, it knocks out testosterone -- and thus some of the roaming, packing, fighting, and associated dog bites that are a main reason for doing male sterilization in animals. Since then, Parsemus Foundation has been working with researchers -- both the pioneering researchers in India and a university team in Italy that has confirmed it works -- to gather, present, and publish additional data on this new option that would mean more humane sterilization for dogs and cats. There is now enough published scientific data about its use that in certain circumstances, with proper follow-up and record-keeping, veterinarians may be justified in using it NOW, particularly in countries where there is no other nonsurgical sterilant available.
