Younger women opting for breast enlargement surgery
Posted: Published on July 24th, 2014
by JANET ST. JAMES WFAA Posted on July 23, 2014 at 10:16 PM Updated yesterday at 11:44 PM DALLAS Shopping especially for swimsuits is a lot more fun for Lori Rupp these days. "I can feel comfortable being at the pool in a swimsuit and not worry about thinking I'm a 12-year-old boy," she said. Rupp feels more comfortable because of breast augmentation. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more young women are having the procedure. More than 3,300 women under the age of 19 had breast augmentation surgery in 2013; that's a 64 percent increase in the past decade. We're seeing more people interested in breast augmentation; it's growing," said Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. William Adams. "The demographic of 18-to-28 years old. Adams is considered an international expert in breast augmentation. He developed new surgical techniques that make implant surgery safer for patients. Cosmetic Surgery Regret Is On The Rise
Posted: Published on July 22nd, 2014
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 22, 2014 The demand for revision surgeries is at an all time high, according to some surgeons whose waiting rooms are filled with patients who seek out their special expertise and aesthetic judgment. As the number of people electing to have plastic surgery continues to rise across the country, and the number of doctors electing to do cosmetic procedures is increasing, it is not surprising that the number of corrective or revision surgeries would also be growing. According to New York City Facial Plastic Surgeon Sam Rizk, "At this point, about fifty percent of the procedures I perform are revision surgery. Although rhinoplasty has historically been the number one revision procedure, patients are also seeking secondary facelifts, neck lifts and blepharoplasties (eyelid surgery) in record numbers. Factors That Influence Secondary Surgery Revision surgery may be necessary after complications from disappointing results or from problems that arose which may have been avoided by a more experienced surgeon. Because risks increase, and the likelihood of pleasing cosmetic are less predictable and more complicated with every surgery, mainly because of accumulation of scar tissue and the loss of cartilage. Revision surgeries are also more expensive than first-time surgeries … Continue reading

Plastic Surgery and Botox: A Washington D.C. Politicians Guide to Looking Younger
Posted: Published on July 17th, 2014
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 A July 13, 2014 article in the Washington Post titled Washingtons Secret to Staying Relevant: A Little Botox here, a Tuck There states that the worst kept secret in Washington D.C. is that the glowing, youthful faces of its politicians are not the result of a few days off but of Botox, dermal filler injections, and plastic surgery. According to the article, the most common issues politicians want to address are the non-verbal cues that stem from aging faces. Specifically weak jaw lines, drooping eyebrows, and corners of the mouth that turn downward. (see: goo.gl/4QMKzy) I have to object to the articles characterization of the aesthetic of cosmetic treatments in Los Angeles, says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. Enormous breasts have been out of style for years. And, though I may have been ahead of others in this regard, no one is interested in having their face appear paralyzed. I specialize in providing our clients with natural-looking results. According to the article, the Washington D.C. aesthetic is minimalist, with most patients opting first for minimally invasive treatments rather than traditional plastic surgery. Minimally invasive treatments include Botox, dermal filler … Continue reading

VitaThreads LLC Reports Meeting Primary and Secondary Endpoints in Pre-Clinical Studies Demonstrating Effectiveness of …
Posted: Published on July 15th, 2014
WORCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VitaThreads LLC today reported that the VitaSuture Wound Management Systems (VWMS) met a primary endpoint of incisional closure and secondary histological endpoints in pre-clinical in vivo animal studies. The study was conducted in a rat skin incision model system, evaluating the behavior of VWMS in 23 animals over the course of 57 days as compared to currently available sutures. VWMS demonstrated successful closure of evaluated wounds with no device-linked complications, with complete absorption of the suture material within 14 days, and minimal histological evidence of inflammation as compared to controls. Review by a board-certified histopathologist revealed less accompanying fibrosis and inflammation in suture absorption and wound healing than controls. Mechanical testing of VitaSuture demonstrated superior break strength to conventionally employed absorbable sutures by a factor of as much as 2x. Glenn R. Gaudette, PhD1, Associate Professor,Biomedical Engineering, WPI, served as Principal Investigator for the VWMS pre-clinical evaluation commented, "The substantial lack of inflammation of VWMS presents a unique opportunity to reduce common suture complications including scar and granuloma formation while its quick absorption offers a chance for rapid return to native tissue behavior. This is just the beginning as I see the future potential for VitaSuture as an … Continue reading

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) July 10, 2014 Dr. Jeffrey M. Kenkel, Dallas plastic surgeon, Professor and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, recently published a correlative study in the "Aesthetic Surgery Journal," a publication issued by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The paper, "The Effect of Massive Weight Loss Status, Amount of Weight Loss, and Method of Weight Loss on Body Contouring Outcomes" investigated the likelihood of complications in patients who undergo body contouring after massive weight loss (MWL) over 50 pounds. "This is one of the first large-scale studies comparing outcomes in patients losing significant amount of weight via surgical and non-surgical means," explained Dr. Kenkel, who sees many of these patients in his Dallas plastic surgery clinic. "The study reviewed data from 450 body contouring patients, including 124 who had undergone massive weight loss by various methods before the procedure." Dr. Kenkel and his peers conducted a statistical analysis to identify risk factors and determine the probability of patients experiencing healing issues or complications after their surgery. Patients included men and women in all age groups who had undergone various body contouring procedures, including body lifts, tummy tucks, thighplasty, arm lifts, … Continue reading
