Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures on the Rise for Men

Posted: Published on March 3rd, 2014

Houston, TX (PRWEB) March 03, 2014 According to a report issued by the American Society of Plastics Surgeons, non-invasive cosmetic procedures are on the rise among men. The top procedures are Brotox, injections for men, and injectables. These procedures rose 6 percent in 2012. The trend has even been noticed by the mainstream media in an article from the London Daily Mail. The article, published Nov. 29, 2013, states, In 2012 The Private Clinic on Harley Street treated three times as many men with Botox as it did in 2011 with patient numbers set to have risen further by the end of 2013. Men now account for almost 20 percent of Botox patients at The Private Clinics UK-wide practices. Dr. Rolando Morales, Houstons upcoming plastic surgeon, has noticed a similar increase in male patients. His practice has recently seen more men coming in to have Botox on foreheads, injectables under the skin and other minimally-invasive procedures. Where men used to make appointments in the evenings and early hours, they now come in on lunch and on weekends, demonstrating the recent acceptability of these procedures for men. The days of the rugged, weathered face is out in the most parts of … Continue reading

Dr. Mentz Continues Research on Xarelto

Posted: Published on March 3rd, 2014

Houston, TX (PRWEB) March 03, 2014 Last month, the FDA denied approval of new uses for Johnson & Johnsons blood thinning drug Xarelto. Dr. Mentz, of the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, will still continue his research on the drug, however. Xarelto was seeking clearance to treat patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) when it was denied. This is the FDAs third denial of Johnson & Johnsons request. Reuters published an article on Feb. 14 about the issue entitled "FDA rejects wider use of Xarelto drug." To read the article, visit http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/14/us-bayer-xarelto-idUSBREA1D0W120140214. Xarelto has previously received FDA clearance for six uses in the U.S., including reducing the risk of strokes in patients with nonvalvular AF, as a treatment for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and for reducing the risk of blood clots in the legs and lungs of people who have had hip or knee replacement surgery. The drug was also approved last May in Europe for ACS. The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery conducted a large study in 2008 that followed liposuction patients through the course of their recoveries. These were patients who had some risk of deep vein thrombosis - blood clotting in the legs - and … Continue reading

Wavy vs. Straight: Physics of Curly Hair Teased Out

Posted: Published on March 3rd, 2014

The first detailed model of a 3-D strand of curly hair has been created, a development that could be a boon for the film and computer animation industries, researchers say. Previously, scientists had no simple mathematical way to describe the motion of curly hair, including the way curls bounce as they move around. As such, many animated characters had hair that was either rigidly straight or only swung from side to side. Now, researchers at MIT, in Cambridge, Mass., and the Universit Pierre-et-Marie-Curie (UPMC), in Paris, are teasing out the physics of curly hair. To build their model, the scientists used flexible rods to examine varying degrees of curliness. [The Mysterious Physics of 7 Everyday Things] "Our work doesn't deal with the collisions of all the hairs on a head, which is a very important effect for animators to control a hairstyle," study co-author Pedro Reis, an assistant professor in MIT's department of civil and environmental engineering, said in a statement. "But it characterizes all the different degrees of curliness of a hair and describes mathematically how the properties of the curl change along the arc length of a hair." Reis did not originally intend to figure out the physics … Continue reading

Dr. Marc L. Epstein, Aesthetic MD, Introduces Sculptherapy: a Revolutionary, Non-Surgical Facelift Alternative Aesthetic Medicine specialist, Dr. Marc L. Epstein, of Harrison, NY introduces Sculptherapy, a revolutionary, anti-aging combination therapy that utilizes Scultpra Aesthetic cosmetic injections and Ultherapy ultrasound to provide patients with a non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery. Both Sculptra & Ultherapy offer exceptional levels of patient satisfaction and both are approved by the FDA. Sculptherapy combines clinically proven, anti-aging procedures: Sculptra Aesthetic cosmetic injections with Ultherapy ultrasound to lift, tighten and tone face and neck skin. Sculptherapy is exciting and revolutionary because of the dramatic synergistic affects these combined therapies offer as an alternative to going "under the knife." Dr. Epstein understands that many patients do not want to endure facelift surgery but still want to look and feel younger. For many patients, Sculptherapy offers a real alternative to facelift surgery. Sculptherapy triggers the bodys own collagen regenerative process restoring both face and neck to a natural looking, more youthful appearance. Results appear gradually and subtly over two to three months with clinically proven results that require maintenance treatment only at about two years. 2013: The year of the butt?

Posted: Published on February 27th, 2014

By Dr. Anthony Youn, CNN contributor updated 7:29 AM EST, Thu February 27, 2014 Kim Kardashian's booty may inspire patients to seek buttock enhancement surgery. STORY HIGHLIGHTS Editor's note: Dr. Anthony Youn is a plastic surgeon in metro Detroit. He is the author of "In Stitches," a humorous memoir about growing up Asian-American and becoming a doctor. (CNN) -- Last year was the Year of the Butt. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there was a 58% increase in buttock enhancement surgery in 2013 compared to the year before. This operation had the largest gains of all cosmetic procedures for the year. So why are so many Americans undergoing surgery to enhance their derrieres? I believe the answer lies with the media, both broadcast and social. Plastic surgeons are seeing more and more women who want the backsides of various stars. While I don't hear Jennifer Lopez's name much anymore, other stars with ample behinds have taken her place. Ratings for her reality show may be declining, but Kim Kardashian is still the poster child for a large and shapely backside. In fact, a recent butt selfie (also known as a "belfie") on Instagram went viral with … Continue reading
