During Thursday's midseason finale, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) finally accepted the president's brain mapping job in Washington, D.C. The decision came after Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek spent the first half of season 11 bickering and admittedly supporting their marriage with Band-Aids. Derek's decision doesn't come lightly in fact, they both finally agree that he should take the job after the duo nearly consumed Grey Sloan Memorial with a debate over a Maggie's (Kelly McCreary) patient. By the end of the Grey's Anatomy winter finale, Amelia had taken a long look at all of Nicole's scansunbeknownst to Nicole, as Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) stole them from another hospital without Nicole's consentand excitedly claimed to Arizona that she thinks she can operate on the previously-inoperable brain tumor. On the last episode of Greys Anatomy Amelia was blindsided when a fellow recovering addict came into the hospital. She was looking for information on her parents that had been in a fire. The last thing Amelia expected was to be outed in front of everyone about her past as an addict. Derek stepped in and took over Amelias surgery. When Derek refused to talk about Amelias past, Owen called an emergency meeting. After wising up, Derek did come to her defense in the meeting and said that he cant do the job any better than Amelia. Despite this, Meredith still looked pretty pissed off at him. Dr. Herman went missing most of the episode with Arizona unable to reach her. Before heading into a two-month hiatus, Greys Anatomy season 11, episode 8, Risk, brought in two cases that required the help of a few friends from Glee. The first, featuring Titus Makin Jr., concerns two veterans in a friendly competition to work their way up using the robotic legs in Callie and Owens research. The second is a girl, Lindsay Pearce, whose root canal results in a rapidly spreading infection that leads Derek to find a brain lesion during a CT. The cases pit surgeons against each other, and test their trust and ability to separate their hearts from their minds. Meredith and Derek are both called in to consult on Hollys infection and they instantly butt heads on which surgery is more pressing. Around this time last year, doctors told Aspen theyd exhausted every option they could to help her heart to function on its own. They finally did another cath and said, yeah, its time to be put on the transplant list. For the next three months, Aspen and her family waited. I didnt have any energy at all, said Aspen.
