Greys Anatomys trip to the past on Thursday night was two-fold: Not only did viewers get a deeper glimpse into the life of Ellis Grey (Kate Burton/Sally Pressman), but the dynamics of the emotional hour had an old school Greys feel that fans of the long-running ABC drama could truly appreciate. During the hour, Greys returned to the scene of the crime, so to speak, the famous carousel scene in which Richard (James Pickens Jr./J. August Richards) left Ellisbut this time, we finally found out the motivations why. In the wake of Ellis being nominated for her first Harper Avery Award, Richard decided to leave Ellis because he would always be in her shadow. As a result, she decided to slit her wrists, but Meredith called 911 in time. It was when Ellis was admitted to the hospital that she found out she was pregnant with Maggie (Kelly McCreary)all memories that came rushing back to Meredith given new information from Richard and her mothers journals. Love is a battlefield, and the doctors of Seattle Grace are learning the hard way. On the Oct. 16 episode of Greys Anatomy, each and every relationship gets a little more painful, but one unexpectedly blossoms. Greys Anatomy brings on even more drama this week in the Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) case, and Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is at the center of the ladies. Even Dr. Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) gets involved in the sister act. On the medical front, the doctors worked together to make sure a man doesnt become paralyzed, and gave a little girl the necessary treatment for a massive tumor, regardless of her being an illegal alien. Meredith Grey took us back in time, reading through her mothers journal, only to reveal devastating memories of her childhood. Meanwhile, her husband Derek still carried around the weight of his decisions to stay in Seattle. RANT: Grey's Anatomy, we've got a bone to pick with you. We've been wondering how on earth it was possible for Meredith to not know her mom was pregnant, gave birth and gave up a kid when Mere was five years old at the time. Wouldn't she have noticed her mom getting big and then all of sudden getting skinny again after nine months? You finally gave us an answer tonightand it just absolutely enraged us. Turns out Meredith actually did remember her mom getting pregnant?! But justrepressed the entire nine months of memories until now?! She literally outlined to Derek the nine month period of time when she was five, watching her mom's stomach getting bigger as she hid in an apartment, the night her mom's water broke and when she gave birth in the hospitalas if she just remembered it now like an epiphany?!? Uh uh. Nope. Sorry, Grey's, but we just don't buy this whole storyline. It's a little too ridiculous for us to stomach. Repressed memories at least to that extent are not a real thing! Greys Anatomy season 11, episode 4, Only Mama Knows shed some new light on the Ellis Grey of the past and the Richard of the present. Cases: Roy: Spinal graph blocks spinal blood flow Nadia: 10 year old with a giant abdominal tumor Round One: Ellis Grey, visionary, motivator to women in medicine, yet not the ideal mother figure. The word audacious is thrown around the episode like it was on clearance in the writers bin, but when you have a woman who names her discovery The Grey Method, what else would you call it? Meredith and Derek are still going the rounds with no end in sight for their reconciliation. Derek is growing impatient with his wife, who claims she needed to stay in Seattle to shine. He wants results and he wants them sooner rather than later. Coming to terms with his own poor decision to abandon the DC job is not Merediths problem. A Unanimous Decision: Karev is back on the pediatric floor of Grey-Sloan Memorial, taking over the duties as an attending, helping out Arizona as she works through her fellowship.
