Anatomy of an Advanced Persistent Threat Attack
Posted: Published on October 10th, 2014
What can banks learn from recent APT attacks on the retail industry? The previous post of this blog series discussed the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) warning about imminent, advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks on ATMs. Specifically, criminals might hack into banks web-based, ATM management systems, eliminate cash withdrawal limits imposed on the ATMs and thereby steal all the cash stored in the ATMs. Unlike the cybercrimes that banks have dealt with so far -- including numerous Trojans, DDoS attacks, and ATM skimming -- the attack that the FFIEC is warning about is far more advanced and very similar to the ongoing attacks on the retail industry. So in this post, well dissect recent APT attacks on the retail industry, which will yield valuable lessons and help us build better defense strategies against the cyberage Pancho Villas and John Dillingers. [JPMorgan Chase Breach Impacts 76 Million Consumers] Anatomy of an advanced persistent threat attackIn an APT attack, the intruders break into a network, implant advanced malware, and sustain an indiscernible presence until they are able to siphon off the targeted data. Typically, an APT involves the following phases: Target selection. Some attackers choose a victim first and research that … Continue reading

'Grey's Anatomy's' Kate Burton on Her 16 Famous "Children"
Posted: Published on October 9th, 2014
Courtesy of ABC "Grey's Anatomy's" Kelly McCreary, Kate Burton and Ellen Pompeo When it comes to Kate Burton, there are two secrets to success: Have the three-time Emmy nominee guest-star in your pilot, or have her play your mother. The latter is true for Grey's Anatomy's Kelly McCreary, who this season has joined the Shonda Rhimes medical drama as Ellis Grey's (Burton) daughter, Maggie Pierce. The season 11 story centers on Maggie, the love child of Ellis and Richard (James Pickens Jr.), who was given up for adoption as a newborn. For Burton, the storyline meant a return to the medical drama that earned her two Emmy noms for her role as a brilliant surgeon suffering from Alzheimer's. But it also meant that McCreary, who worked with Burton at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, would become the latest in a long line of her famous onscreen (and -stage) children. The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Burton to get the scoop on her Grey's return and her many famous "children," including David Schwimmer, James Franco, Lea Michele and more. See more The Couples of Shondaland: 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Private Practice,' 'Scandal' What was your reaction when you learned that Ellis and Richard had … Continue reading

Maggie also seemed to get on quite well with Amelia. After working together on a cancer patient who died, Maggie started to feel better about Meredith. So Maggie took the leap and told Meredith that they share a mother. What she wasnt expecting was for Meredith to accuse her of lying. It doesnt look like these two will be bonding anytime soon. Owen introduces Callie to the Veterans Hospital patients in hopes that she will help them with her robotic limb lab, Jo becomes jealous of Alex and Merediths friendship, and Maggie continues to confide in Richard.
