While Meredith deals with Dereks sudden and suspiciously timed return to Seattle, another familiar face will pop back up on Greys Anatomy during Thursdays episode as Owens (Kevin McKidd) mother (Debra Mooney) checks into Grey Sloan Memorial. Its a really fun episode, McKidd tells EW. Its great having Debra Mooney back. We give her a lot more to do. She turns up with a medical condition, but the real surprise is that she has got a man in tow with her that Owen did not know about. Owens reaction is funny and interesting. Her arrival may put Owen in an uncomfortable position as hes forced to introduce Amelia to his mother much earlier than he wouldve liked. Owen and Amelia are not a couple yet, so its interesting to see how that plays out between them, McKidd says. Amelia and Owens mom actually hit it off very quickly. They like each other and become fast friends. Owen is the odd man out in the whole situation. Its cool for Amelia, Scorsone adds. She meets his mom and she likes her immediately. The truth has been revealed! In tonights episode of Greys Anatomy, fans of the hit ABC series finally learned the real reason Derek suspiciously fled from D.C. to Seattle. And just as we had suspected, it did have something to do with Renee Collier (Scottie Thompson), Dereks East Coast fellow with a perky sounding voice. But hold on -- dont grab your pitchforks just yet! Theres more to this story than was initially revealed in the opening scene of episode 17. When With or Without You kicked off, Derek was sticking with the story that nothing had happened between him and his extremely smart (not to mention good-looking) employee. But Mer (Ellen Pompeo) wasnt buying into her husband tall tale-- after all, she was his resident once too and knows firsthand just how charming Dr. McDreamy can be. Greys Anatomy took its time answering the question on everyones mindDid Derek cheat on Meredith?tonight.We didnt get a definitive answer under the last few minutes of the episode. Despite how long it took to get there, Im fairly content with how it all landed, especially because it was an excuse to think about what Cristina said to Meredith before leaving last year.As Merediths opening monologue explains, tonights episode was all about our characters remembering that just because they have gone so long withoutsomething doesnt mean they no longer need it. This thematic throughline ran all the way from MerDers situation to Stephanie, who, along with Wilson, was stuck in comedic relief land tonight. Lets talk about why a woman answered Dereks phone because thats what Derek and Meredith are discussing when the episode opens.
