Background: Back in April, Cliven Bundy was just your average Nevada racist. The 67-year-old Mormon earned his living as a cattle rancher, allowing his herd to graze illegally on nearby federally protected land. The controversy: Bundy owed a lot ofmoney to the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in grazing fees and penalties $1.1 million, to be exact for allowing his cattle on federal property. Bundy refused to pay, so the BLM began impounding his 900 head of cattle. After posting on his website about the standoff, area supporters came to his ranch to protest the roundup, leading Bundy to threaten a range war against the U.S. government. The confrontation turned violent when an armed militia gathered on his ranch, aiming rifles at BLMs forces, who were in turn armed with semi-automatic weapons. BLM decided to retreat and Bundy became something of a folk hero to the anti-government set, garnering significant media attention in the process. Sens. Rand Paul, Dean Heller and large swaths of the conservative press lionized the rancher. Sen. Harry Reid, meanwhile, called Bundys militia a band of domestic terrorists. When Uniontown Area High School students are learning about the cardiovascular system in their anatomy classes, its not practical to actually handle and see a human heart. But thanks to the unique combination of hunting and education in the community, teachers have found a way for students to have a tangible learning experience. For several years, students in Dario Pic Piccolomini and Pam Gadds anatomy classes at the senior high school have dissected locally donated, white-tailed deer hearts, in addition to their regular curriculum. Since we have so many deer hunters that attend Uniontown, we thought this would be a great idea. Even some of our teachers donate, said Piccolomini. Each year, the teachers advertise to the students and staff that theyre accepting frozen deer hearts that are intact and from legal kills. Though the students also dissect cats during the semester, the deer heart is an added bonus. Our administration has been very open minded and understanding of any of our classroom needs within our biology and anatomy classes, said Piccolomini. Weve got some bad news for Crowen fans. According to TVLine, Shonda Rhimes is romantically stitching together Owen (Kevin McKidd) with another scrub-donning doctor when Greys Anatomy returns for the second-half of Season 11 on Thursday, Jan. 29. Any guesses on which Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital employee will win over the heart of Cristina Yangs (Sandra Oh) former beau? Heres a hint: she Dereks (Patrick Dempsey) sister and currently the Head of Neurosurgery. Thats right! Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will be cozying up to Owen when the hit ABC drama returns in 2015 (thanks to a little push from Callie [Sara Ramirez]) and we cant exactly say were surprised. Weve been anticipating an Amelia and Owen romance for quite some time, ever since the two bonded over their haunting pasts -- and were not the only ones who have been bracing for a new hospital romance!
