Using stem cell-derived heart muscle cells to advance heart regenerative therapy – EurekAlert

Posted: Published on April 30th, 2024

image: Study shows that cardiac spheroids, derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells, can be easily transported and injected into damaged areas of the heart to promote its regeneration and recovery of function. Credit: Hideki Kobayashi from Shinshu University Regenerative heart therapies involve transplanting cardiac muscle cells into damaged areas of the heart to recover lost function. However, the risk of arrhythmias following this procedure is reportedly high. Continue reading

Scientists Have ‘Healed’ a Heart Attack in Mice by Regenerating Muscle Cells – ScienceAlert

Posted: Published on June 26th, 2022

Scientists have developed a new technique that can repair and even regenerate heart muscle cells after a heart attack (or myocardial infarction). While it has only been tested on mice so far, if it works the same in humans it could potentially be a life-saving treatment for people who have suffered a heart attack. The technique uses a synthetic messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA).mRNA creates a 'blueprint' of DNA sequences that the body then uses to build the proteins that form and regulate our cells.By tweaking the mRNA, scientists can deliver different instructions for different biological processes. Continue reading

T4 Shows Potential as a Combination Treatment for Diabetes-Induced Complications of the Cornea – PR Newswire

Posted: Published on May 7th, 2022

ROCKVILLE, Md., May 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- RegeneRx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (OTCQB: RGRX) ("RegeneRx"), a clinical-stage drug development company focused on tissue protection, repair, and regeneration, is reporting that researchers have demonstrated the therapeutic efficacy of Thymosin Beta 4 (T4) as a combination treatment against hyperglycemia (diabetic)-induced changes in human corneal epithelial cells. "Our study elucidates for the first time that a T4 and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) combo treatment plays a crucial role in regulating the tight junction stability and cytoskeleton rearrangement [of the cornea], which are closely related to barrier integrity Continue reading
