The Effector Cells and Cellular Mediators of Immune System Involved in Cardiac Inflammation and Fibrosis after Myocardial Infarction – DocWire News

Posted: Published on May 7th, 2020

The cardiac repair aftermyocardial infarction(MI) involves two phases, namely, inflammatory response and proliferative response. The former is an inflammatory reaction, evoked by different kinds of pro-inflammatory leukocytes and molecules stimulated bymyocardialnecrosis, while the latter is a repair process, predominated by a magnitude of anti-inflammatory cells and cytokines, as well as fibroblasts. Cardiac remodeling post-MI is dependent on the balance of individualized intensity of the post-MI inflammation and subsequent cardiac fibrosis Continue reading

Varied Nightly Bedtime, Sleep Duration Linked to CVD Risk – Medscape

Posted: Published on March 4th, 2020

People who frequently alter the amount of sleep and time they go to bed each night are twofold more likely to develop cardiovascular disease, independent of traditional CVD risk factors, new research suggests. Prior studies have focused on shift workers because night shift work will influence circadian rhythm and increase CVD risk. But it is increasingly recognized that circadian disruption may occur outside of shift work and accumulate over time, particularly given modern lifestyle factors such as increased use of mobile devices and television at night, said study coauthor Tianyi Huang, ScD, MSc, of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. MR Improves in Half of Low-Flow/Low-Gradient AS Patients Undergoing TAVR – TCTMD

Posted: Published on February 15th, 2020

Most patients with low-flow/low-gradient aortic stenosis (AS) have some form of mitral regurgitation (MR), but transcatheter aortic valve replacement improves MR in roughly half of this group, according to a new analysis of the TOPAS-TAVI registry. For those who do not see an improvement in MR following TAVR, however, there is a significantly increased risk of all-cause and cardiac mortality, as well as rehospitalization for cardiac causes, at 1 year when compared with patients who had an improvement in MR. Its a complex population, said senior investigator Josep Rods-Cabau, MD (Quebec Heart & Lung Institute/Laval University, Quebec City, Canada), referring to patients with low-flow/low-gradient AS and MR.
