Andrew set his sights on the summit on his 21st birthday more than 6 months ago. His journey kicked off from his first visit to BridgeClimb in May 2016, when he was encouraged to develop an action plan to help him succeed in the 1,002 step journey. Andrew worked closely with his trainers (including Cerebral Palsy Alliance's Teigan Butchers) and BridgeClimb over more than 6 months to develop a bespoke mental and physical training program, and took part in on-site assessments to review his progress and tailor the program. Hydrocephalus – Wikipedia

Posted: Published on December 7th, 2016

Hydrocephalus is a condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain.[1] This typically causes increased pressure inside the skull. Older people may have headaches, double vision, poor balance, urinary incontinence, personality changes, or mental impairment. In babies there may be a rapid increase in head size. Other symptoms may include vomiting, sleepiness, seizures, and downward pointing of the eyes.[1] Hydrocephalus can occur due to birth defects or be acquired later in life.[1] Associated birth defects include neural tube defects and those that result in aqueductal stenosis.[1][2] Other causes include meningitis, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, intraventricular hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. There are four types of hydrocephalus: communicating, non-communicating, ex-vacuo, and normal pressure. Diagnosis is typically by examination and medical imaging.[1] Hydrocephalus is typically treated by the surgical placement of a shunt system. A procedure called a third ventriculostomy may be an option in a few people. Complications from shunts may include overdrainage, underdrainage, mechanical failure, infection, or obstruction. This may require replacement. Outcomes are variable; however, many live normal lives. Without treatment death may occur.[1] About one to two per 1,000 newborns have hydrocephalus.[1][3] Rates in the developing world may be more.[4] Normal … Continue reading

Possible Improvements after Stem Cell Treatment: Now lets talk about the stem cells we use in our treatment protocol for Cerebral Palsy. What are Stem Cells? Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to help perform a variety of regenerative functions such as differentiate and replace a wide range of cells in patients body, regulate the immune system and stimulate patients own stem cells. Adult Stem Cells (ACSs) are naturally present in every human being and their task is to regenerate dead and damaged cells during the bodys whole life span. They regenerate cells that are naturally dying (apoptosis) as well as cells injured by other reasons (disease, traumatic injuries etc.). These stem cells have limited differentiation and proliferation potentials, thus they are not likely to create any tumor or cancer. At Beike Biotech, we are only using Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells (UCBSC) and Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells (UCMSC) in our treatment protocols, which are 2 types of … Continue reading

Pregnancy – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Posted: Published on October 1st, 2016

Pregnancy, also known as gravidity or gestation, is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman.[1] A multiple pregnancy involves more than one offspring, such as with twins.[2] Pregnancy can occur by sexual intercourse or assisted reproductive technology. It usually lasts around 40weeks from the last menstrual period (LMP) and ends in childbirth.[1][3] This is just over ninelunar months, where each month is about 29 days.[1][3] When measured from conception it is about 38 weeks. An embryo is the developing offspring during the first eight weeks following conception, after which, the term fetus is used until birth.[3] Symptoms of early pregnancy may include missed periods, tender breasts, nausea and vomiting, hunger, and frequent urination.[4] Pregnancy may be confirmed with a pregnancy test.[5] Pregnancy is typically divided into three trimesters. The first trimester is from week one through 12 and includes conception. Conception is when the sperm fertilizes the egg. The fertilized egg then travels down the fallopian tube and attaches to the inside of the uterus, where it begins to form the fetus and placenta.[1] The first trimester carries the highest risk of miscarriage (natural death of embryo or fetus).[6] The second trimester is from week … Continue reading

Treatment – Cerebral palsy – Mayo Clinic

Posted: Published on September 17th, 2016

Children and adults with cerebral palsy require long-term care with a medical care team. This team may include: Medications that can lessen the tightness of muscles may be used to improve functional abilities, treat pain and manage complications related to spasticity or other cerebral palsy symptoms. It's important to talk about drug treatment risks with your doctor and discuss whether medical treatment is appropriate for your child's needs. Medication selection depends on whether the problem affects only certain muscles (isolated) or the whole body (generalized). Drug treatments may include the following: Isolated spasticity. When spasticity is isolated to one muscle group, your doctor may recommend onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) injections directly into the muscle, nerve or both. Botox injections may help to improve drooling. Your child will need injections about every three months. Side effects may include pain, mild flu-like symptoms, bruising or severe weakness. Other more-serious side effects include difficulty breathing and swallowing. Generalized spasticity. If the whole body is affected, oral muscle relaxants may relax stiff, contracted muscles. These drugs include diazepam (Valium), dantrolene (Dantrium) and baclofen (Gablofen). Diazepam carries some dependency risk, so it's not recommended for long-term use. Its side effects include drowsiness, weakness and drooling. Dantrolene side … Continue reading
