Parental love crucial to recovery of cerebral palsy kids Wishesland
Posted: Published on March 10th, 2014
KUCHING: Children diagnosed with cerebral palsy will have a better recovery rate with the constant love and care of both parents. According to Wishesland (also known as Kuching & Samarahan Division Cerebral Palsy Association) president Chi Poh Yung, raising a child with cerebral palsy required equal love from both father and mother. Children with cerebral palsy need their parents more than the physiotherapists as we have found that with adequate fatherly love, their recovery is faster, he told reporters at a press conference held at Wishesland Centre yesterday. Also present was OurYouth.my founder Dato Patrick Liew. Chi pointed out that cerebral palsy was a disorder of movements and posture due to damage or failure to develop normally in a small part of the brain controlling these activities. It is one of the most common congenital disorders of childhood and around nine of out 10 who are diagnosed with cerebral palsy are bedridden, he revealed, adding that with every 500 new births in Malaysia, one infant will be diagnosed with cerebral palsy. As a father to a child with cerebral palsy, Chi acknowledged that it was not an easy task to raise children with cerebral palsy as most parents find that … Continue reading

The goal of Niagara Cerebral Palsy is to help those with developmental disabilities from infants to adults live the most independent and inclusive lives they can, according to John Reardon, executive director/chief executive officer. To that end, the organization served 4,000 clients last year in a wide variety of ways. The nonprofit corporation is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and will be holding its annual Snowflake Basket Auction from 4 to 8 p.m. March 21 and from noon to 5 p.m. March 22 in the Niagara Falls Elks Lodge, 1805 Fashion Outlet Blvd. In the past four years, the event has helped raise nearly $50,000, used to help purchase items like therapeutic swings and sensory chairs and teaching materials, as well as to upgrade the organizations group homes. Wed like to try and make the public aware that we are not just cerebral palsy in fact, thats a small percentage of the children and adults who use our services every day, Reardon said. Child with cerebral palsy secures 5.8m settlement
Posted: Published on March 8th, 2014
Grace Orchard, of Carrigaline, Co. Cork, leaving court in February during the opening day of a High Court action for damages. Photograph: Collins Courts A child with cerebral palsy has secured 5.8 million under a settlement of her High Court action against the HSE over the handling and management of her birth at a Cork city hospital. The settlement was reached after a 12 day hearing to assess damages. Ms Justice Mary Irvine was previously told liability in eight-year-old Grace Orchards case was conceded last January, some three years after the case was initiated. The judge said she regretted it had taken three years for the HSE to say it was culpable as that seemed an extraordinary length of time. Dr John OMahony SC, for the child, said a letter of apology had been tendered to the family on the second day of the hearing. Counsel read the letter from Cork University Hospital CEO Tony McNamara in which he unreservedly apologised on behalf of the HSE to Grace and her family for the injuries suffered during the childs delivery at St Finbarrs Hospital in February 2006. The treatment did not reach our high standard on this occasion, he said. Grace, … Continue reading

Cerebral palsy boy in Dubai needs help for urgent hip surgery
Posted: Published on March 5th, 2014
Dubai: Joseph Stephen, 8, can neither talk nor walk normally. Like his brother Ashwin, two years younger, he suffers from cerebral palsy. To make matters worse, Stephens hip is also dislocated. But his parents cannot afford to pay for his treatment. With two special needs children, Stephens mother Jenny said: We desperately want to get our son operated, but cannot raise the money. My husband is the only earning member in the family and we are already spending a substantial amount of money on sending the boys to a special school. She said Stephen, who is wheelchair bound, was born with a dislocated hip, but it was only discovered recently. He could manage a few steps on his own but now even this limited movement is affected. When we took him to the doctor, we were told he urgently needed surgery to put his hip back in the socket and to straighten the muscles in his leg. Jenny said a Dubai-based orthopaedic pediatric surgeon has recommended that Stephen undergoes surgery to maintain his mobility and avoid further deformities. She said she cannot work to supplement the family income as she cannot leave her two special needs sons alone. Please help … Continue reading
