Scientists are developing nanoparticles to produce pharmaceuticals used in the imaging and diagnosis of diseases such as cancer, arthritis, Parkinson's disease and eye degeneration. However, problems occur in the development of these nanoparticles as toxic chemicals are sometimes released during the manufacturing process. For decades, and with funding from the National Institutes of Health, Kattesh Katti, a researcher at the University of Missouri, has been advancing the development of nano-scale molecules, including gold nanoparticles, and has been instrumental in developing environmentally friendly ways of producing these particles using "green" technologies. For outstanding achievements in radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, Katti has been named the 2015 Hevesy Medal Award winner. The international award of excellence is named for Nobel Prize Winner George de Hevesy (1885-1966), recognizing his work on the use of isotopes as tracers in the study of chemical processes. The award is given annually to an individual in recognition of excellence through sustained career achievements in the fields of applied nuclear … Continue reading

Did Cleveland Cavaliers Create Another Chemistry Issue by Acquiring J.R. Smith?

Posted: Published on January 20th, 2015

Chemistry is essential to any successful NBA team, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to build some. It's the reason coach David Blatt recentlyskipped practiceto take his teambowling, and why general manager David Griffin has added so many high-character veteran players to the roster. One of Griffin's most recent additions, however, will test that practice. J.R Smith, he of both superior talent and headache, is now a Cavalier, for better or worse. Cleveland traded a similar guard in Dion Waiters, who ultimately never fit his role with the team. Chemistry issues often popped up with Waiters, making the decision to deal him that much easier. Now with Smith as hissuccessor, are things better, or do chemistry problems remain? The Dion Dilemma Over the past three years, the greatest source of chemistry issues plaguing the Cavaliers stemmed from the Waiters-Kyrie Irving relationship. The duo never developed any synergy together. All three of Waiters' Cavs coaches (Byron Scott, Mike Brown and David Blatt) tried him as a starter next to Irving. All ended up benching Waiters and his ball-dominant style of play. Here is the original post: Did Cleveland Cavaliers Create Another Chemistry Issue by Acquiring J.R. Smith? … Continue reading

Woike: Clippers passing chemistry test now

Woike: Clippers passing chemistry test now Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, center, celebrates after the Clippers scored against the Sacramento Kings during the fourth quarter during a 117-108 victory on Saturday. RICH PEDRONCELLI , ASSOCIATED PRESS SACRAMENTO You can look between the lines in what youre about to read because theres a strong implication thats going to be made. In the Clippers past three games three games where Jordan Farmar, Reggie Bullock and Chris Douglas-Roberts didnt play team chemistry seems to have improved. Add in the fact that the Clippers look genuinely happier on the bench in the two games since Bullock and Douglas-Roberts were traded and Farmar was released, and you dont have to strain your eyes to see whats happening. A guy like Dahntay Jones never sits down, and is up yelling and cheering after nearly every bucket. A guy like Austin Rivers stands whenever an open 3 gets launched, ready to celebrate if it goes down. This hasnt really been happening, and if it has, it certainly wasnt this noticeable. I think it matters, J.J. Redick said. Its a small thing. Chemistry is a weird thing. Its delicate. Our guys last year like Willie (Green), Ryan (Hollins), Jared … Continue reading
