Playing on Crosbys line a new perk for Penguins winger Patric Hornqvist

Posted: Published on October 15th, 2014

Chemistry tends to materialize at an accelerated pace when Sidney Crosby is your center. Patric Hornqvist is relishing that phenomenon while busting out of the gate this season. Two games into his Penguins career, he has two goals, two assists and a team-high 13 shots on goal as part of the teams top line with Crosby and Chris Kunitz. He feels like he won the lottery. Oh yeah, for sure. Playing with Sid makes it easier out there, said Hornqvist, a winger acquired in the trade with Nashville for James Neal in the summer. Hes one of the best players in the world. He can make things happen from nothing. Hes so strong on the puck, and you just have to skate a lot and try to get open when you play with him. To put it politely, Hornqvist never had skated on a line with a center near the caliber of Crosby in the NHL season. That excludes his short stint with Henrik Zetterberg for Team Sweden last winter at the Olympics. Still, he has been a 20-goal scorer in his four seasons in the NHL, with a reputation as a menacing net-front presence with a knack for scoring … Continue reading

PUBLIC RELEASE DATE: 14-Oct-2014 Contact: Cornelia Lossau cornelia.lossau@dfg.de 49-302-061-214-320 Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft 8 October 2014 The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) congratulates Profes-sor Stefan W. Hell, of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Gttingen and the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, on winning the 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Speaking at a meeting of spokespersons for the graduate schools, clusters of excellence and institutional strategies in Bad Honnef, which are funded under the Excellence Initiative, DFG President Professor Peter Strohschneider said: "The DFG would like to congratulate Professor Stefan W. Hell, who was awarded the DFG's Leibniz Prize in 2008 for his outstanding research and who works in one of the DFG Research Centres now funded as a cluster of excellence within the Excellence Initiative. The award also acknowledges how organisations which fund top-level research at universities and non-university institutions together create a productive system in which such outstanding knowledge-driven research can flourish." Today the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the winners of the prize for Chemistry: Professor Hell and his colleagues in the US, Eric Betzig and William E. Moerner, have been awarded the Nobel Prize "for the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy". Professor Stefan … Continue reading

UConn Men: Ollie Preaches Chemistry, Which Worked Last Season

Posted: Published on October 15th, 2014

WALLINGFORD There will be one more chance to celebrate the national championship, at First Night on Friday, but the process of moving forward is well underway for the UConn men. "Our guys have been doing an amazing job of going forward," coach Kevin Ollie said before appearing with Geno Auriemma at a UConn Alumni Association event Tuesday night. "We've been looking forward since the championship," Ollie said. "We've been looking forward to the new season, and things change. It's good to celebrate one more time with the banner unveiling. It's always good to reflect." A crowd of about 450 came for dinner and the question-and-answer session with Ollie and Auriemma at the Oakdale Theatre. The first building block for the 2014-15 Huskies is chemistry, that mysterious element that is so hard to define, yet, as was the case during UConn's run to the championship last March, so easy to see. Two years ago, Ollie brought in sports psychologist Joe Carr to spend a weekend with the team and help build that chemistry. "Oh, yeah, Dr. Carr is always around," Ollie said. "He calls me all the time, he's one of my closest friends. He's always there in spirit, and he … Continue reading
