Bruins-Islanders Notes: Top-Line Chemistry Still Work In Progress

Posted: Published on October 1st, 2014

Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson skated as a line for the first time in the preseason during Tuesday nights 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders, and it was clear that more game time is needed for this trio to start clicking. Hopefully we can get something together quickly. Its kind of a tough game too with penalties, especially in the second there it was tough to get a good feeling out of it, Eriksson said. Definitely we need some more games here maybe and get the connection going. Just work hard. We have a little bit of time to improve and get better and definitely we can work on some more stuff the next game. The Lucic-Krejci-Eriksson trio combined for just five shots and zero points as a unit against the Islanders. Eriksson picked up an assist on Brad Marchands third-period goal after killing a penalty. I dont think that line as a whole had a good game, either of them. When I say great game, they were just OK. I dont think they were a dominant line tonight, Bruins head coach Claude Julien said. Probably hard to assess as far as will that line work or … Continue reading

TV review: Of Tuesday night’s 2 new comedies, only one is terrible

Posted: Published on October 1st, 2014

"Selfie," 7 p.m. Tuesdays on ABC beginning tonight Two and a half stars (out of four) "Manhattan Love Story," 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays on ABC beginning tonight One and a half stars (out of four) Romantic comedies live or die on chemistry. Do the lead characters have enough to keep us interested for the length of a movie or, much tougher, the duration of a television series? Two new ABC sitcoms take the chemistry test beginning tonight. Neither is nearly perfect, and both veer into annoying, but one has a little more of the fizz that a chemical reaction creates. The better show is "Selfie" (7 p.m.), and to see its potential, you'll have to grit your teeth through a lot of painful moments early on. Karen Gillan, almost unrecognizable as companion Amy Pond from the Matt Smith era on "Doctor Who," plays Eliza Dooley, a self-obsessed social media star who measures all worth via online "likes." Eliza would never realize no one actually likes (rather than "likes") her, until she grossly humiliates herself on an airplane in an incident that instantly goes viral. For help in reinventing herself, she turns to stiff-necked marketing specialist Henry Higgins (John Cho), who scorns … Continue reading

CU football: Buffs’ Sefo Liufau, Nelson Spruce have chemistry

Posted: Published on October 1st, 2014

Colorado wide receiver Nelson Spruce says the chemistry he has with quarterback Sefo Liufau has been essential to the record-breaking numbers they're producing this season and he felt a connection with Liufau right from the start. Liufau took over as Colorado's quarterback in the first quarter of a loss at Arizona State in 2013. He immediately led the Buffs on an 80-yard scoring drive in which he completed his first career pass to Spruce and finished the drive off with his first career touchdown pass to Spruce. He completed another pass to Spruce in the middle of the drive. "The offense we play in is great, especially for a receiver, but I think the chemistry aspect is definitely there just because at this time last year, Sefo only had one or two games under his belt," Spruce said Tuesday. "We've had this whole offseason and whole camp to really get on the same page and these games we've been having I feel like that connection has grown even stronger." The Buffs have produced numerous drives this season that are reminiscent of that first drive of Liufau's career. The sophomore quarterback spreads the ball around to others, but often relies on … Continue reading
