Think we’re a love match? Spit into this tube!

Posted: Published on February 13th, 2015

Instant Chemistry is a new test that helps match singles, and assess couples' likelihood of staying together for the long haul, by analyzing the DNA from your saliva. Here's how it works for couples who want to put their romance to the test: You and your partner order the kit, spit into your respective tubes and mail them in. There's also an online personality test to take. Then, just sit back and wait for your compatibility score based on physical, emotional and psychological factors. Back in the lab, Instant Chemistry's team of scientists is looking at genes associated with your immune system and emotional processing. It's all based on recent studies that examine the correlation between partners' immune systems and their sexual satisfaction, level of attraction, fidelity, fertility and children's health. Instant Chemistry's scores are based on the idea that the less similar a couple's immune systems, the better their relationship may fare. The test also considers research on the serotonin transporter gene, which looks at the relationship between emotional behavior and changes in marital satisfaction over time. There are two versions of this gene. The long version may help you maintain a more level head in emotional situations, while … Continue reading

Technically Incorrect: A Georgia chemistry student replied to a Craigslist ad that turned out to be fake. It led, police say, to his death when he met the alleged sellers. Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives. On Monday, James Jones Jr. replied to an ad on Craigslist offering to sell an iPhone 6. James Jones, murdered, police say, after traveling to meet a fake seller of an iPhone 6. WTVC-TV screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET It led, police say, to him being shot dead in Marietta, Ga. As ABC News reports, police say he was shot in his car after he traveled there from Clark Atlanta University, where he was studying chemistry. David Baldwin, a Marietta police officer, told ABC News: "It was an illegitimate ad he was responding to, and he did not know the sellers. The ad was posted in the hopes to lure somebody in, but obviously the victim didn't know that." He also told WBTV-TV: "As the victim approached Jamaica Cove and entered in to meet with the sellers for the iPhone, the suspects then robbed, shot and killed him right at the scene." Pop Culture Happy Hour: ‘Jupiter Ascending’ And On-Screen Chemistry

Posted: Published on February 13th, 2015

You might be able to still find Jupiter Ascending at your local multiplex, if it's not entirely occupied with screenings of The Spongebob Movie and Fifty Shades Of Grey (USA! USA!). It made modest money last weekend despite (?) being a big and splashy production from the Wachowskis, who made The Matrix and, well, not really The Matrix again after that. But joined by our pal Chris Klimek, we, perhaps surprisingly, found it more amiably entertaining than its press, and while some of you are likely to catch it on home video rather than in theaters, we come around to a nice, solid "not as bad as a lot of people are telling you it is." We also take on the topic of on-screen chemistry. Is it just another name for good acting and good writing? Does it have anything to do with people being attracted to each other in real life? Does Channing Tatum mostly have it with Jonah Hill? As always, we close the show with what's making us happy this week. Stephen is happy about a new record (of course). Glen is happy about an audiobook version of a comedian's memoir. Chris is happy about a show … Continue reading
