January 06, 2020 12:05 ET | Source: Novartis International AG Basel, January 6, 2020 Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS) (Novartis) today announced that it has completed the acquisition of The Medicines Company (the Company) through the consummation of a merger of its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, Medusa Merger Corporation (Purchaser), with and into the Company, with the Company surviving the merger, without a vote of the Companys stockholders in accordance with Section 251(h) of the Delaware General Corporation Law. New Volume and Operator Standards for Mitral Valve Intervention – Medscape

As the use of edge-to-edge repair of mitral regurgitation (MR) ramps up, an expert consensus statement proposes volume standards, as well as operator and institutional requirements for all institutions providing treatment of mitral valve (MV) disease via transcatheter techniques. "These recommendations attempt to balance the need to support optimal quality outcomes with the goal of facilitating access to such innovative therapies an important paradigm for the development and implementation of future, less invasive approaches to structural heart disease," the writing committee states. Adherence to these recommendations, they say, will "maximize the chances that these therapies will be successfully incorporated into management pathways for patients with MV disease in the United States." The recommendations, published online December 16 in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, are a joint effort of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). CvLPRIT: Long-term Reduction in Death/MI With Complete Revascularization – TCTMD

Long-term follow-up of the CvLPRIT trial shows that the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events continues to favor STEMI patients with obstructive multivessel disease who underwent complete revascularization compared with patients who had PCI of the culprit lesion only. Complete revascularization also was associated with a lower risk death and MI, with investigators reporting that after a median follow-up of 5.6 years, 10.0% of STEMI patients who underwent complete revascularization died or had an MI compared with 18.5% of patients randomized to PCI of the infarct-related artery alone (P < 0.0175).
