Johns words just tired and lazy rhetoric In response to John Letfords column on Dundees drug problem, how wonderful it must be for him to see the world in simple black and white. John might want to consider that the work-shy hangers-on and self-inflicted people he claims to have no sympathy for are still someones son or daughter. Drug or alcohol dependency is a complex issue and the reasons behind why people become addicted are most often linked to wider, deeper issues. John calls for a drugs tsar with dedicated expertise, but at the same time tells us we dont need so-called experts to explain the difficulties of addiction. I would like to know what he thinks the tsar would be doing because John tells us he has no respect for those who defend addicts. Would the tsars approach therefore be one which judges, persecutes and punishes people? John offers no real answers, just more tired, lazy rhetoric. Jock Tamsons Bairn. Im a big fan of John Letford, but I couldnt agree with his hard line argument on drug addiction. If people dont agree with current efforts then what do the hard-liners suggest? The buzz from coffee is a sign of drug dependency says Bristol professor

Posted: Published on June 18th, 2013

The morning pick-me-up coffee drinkers crave is actually a sign of drug dependency, according to a Bristol professor. Research from Bristol University shows that the buzz gained from a cup of coffee is actually a sign of it fighting caffeine withdrawal symptoms that have kicked in since the last cup. Professor of biological psychology and caffeine expert, Peter Rogers, told the Mail that people who regularly drink caffeine become dependent on it and struggle to function without it. They just don't function normally without the drug on board, he said. Azuza Terms: Valid until Friday 6th September Contact: 0117 9349903 Valid until: Friday, September 06 2013 If it's your first tea or coffee of the day, it gets you back to normal, but beyond that you don't get much more of a kick. Prof Rogers has studied coffee and its effects for more than 20 years and as a result of his findings he and his colleagues have given up caffeine themselves.
