Married Man Didier Jambart Became Gay Gambling Sex Addict After Taking GSK Parkinson’s Drug
Posted: Published on November 29th, 2012
Didier Jambart stole his children's toys to fund his gambling addiction after taking the GSK Parkinson's drug Requip (Europe1fr/Dailymotion) A married father from France turned into a gay sex addict who stole from his friends and family after taking a medicine for Parkinson's disease made by pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. In a landmark ruling, GSK was ordered to pay damages of 400,000 (160,000) to Didier Jambart, who began taking Requip in 2003. The medication caused severe side effects in Jambart. Over two years, he stole from friends and sold his children's toys to fund his gambling habit. He advertised himself online for gay sex. He also lost 82,000 by placing bets online, a court in Rennes, France heard. Jambart, 52, from Nantes, western France, had been a upstanding member of the community, a husband and a father before he started taking the medication. He cried as the court ruled in his favour, after a lengthy fight to get compensation from GSK. The British company had previously been ordered to pay 117,000, a decision which it had appealed. "It's a great day. It's been a seven-year battle with our limited means for recognition of the fact that GSK lied to us and … Continue reading

Man Wins Suit Over Sex Addiction
Posted: Published on November 29th, 2012
A French man who claimed a Parkinson's drug turned him into a gambling and gay sex addict has been awarded 197,000 euros in damages, the French Press Agency reported. Didier Jambart, 52, of Nantes, France, sued the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline in 2011, claiming the drug, Requip, caused him to lose 82,000 euros gambling on the Internet. He said he also became addicted to gay sex and risky sexual encounters. He said he was raped after starting the drug in 2003 and attempted suicide eight times. "It's a great day," Jambart, who was accompanied by his wife during the emotional ruling, told the French Press Agency. "It's been a seven-year battle with our limited means for recognition of the fact that GSK lied to us and shattered our lives." Parkinson's disease destroys neurons deep within the brain that release the "feel-good" neurotransmitter dopamine. Requip belongs to a class of drugs called dopamine agonists that relieve Parkinson's symptoms -- such as shaking, stiffness, slowness and trouble balancing -- by activating dopamine receptors. But the drugs have side effects that, while rare, can be serious. "There are plenty of reports of people developing side effects from Parkinson's drugs, such as hypersexuality, gambling and … Continue reading

Stephanie Dubois Leducrep.news@sunmedia.ca A relatively new drug recently made its way to the City of Leduc, a drug which has side effects similar to that of LSD, according to Leduc RCMP. Called "2CI" or "2CI nbome,"the drug is a fluid substance that is put on a piece of paper. According to police, the paper can be any colour and the drug itself is colourless. The paper is then putinside of the user's mouth for its desired effect. Const. Tim Gaultois, media liaison with the Leduc RCMP, said the drug causes users to hallucinate and we know of two instances of where people were said to have beenhospitalized as a result of taking it. A chemical base, the drug takes about 45-75 minutes to take effect and can have lasting effects of up to five to eight hours when taken orally, according to erowid.org. The same site also lists out of control thinking, paranoia, fear and panic as just some of the major side effects of the drug. Leduc RCMP first learned of its existence after they received a complaint of youth believed to have consumed the drug. The drug also surfaced in the Town of Beaumont and Stony Plain, said … Continue reading

Bayer Discloses Latest Criteria and Cost of Yaz Settlements
Posted: Published on November 27th, 2012
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 27, 2012 The latest financial report from German drugmaker Bayer offers patients some clarification on which cases qualify for a Yaz settlement and how much the claims may be worth. According to the Business Development and Legal Notes section of the Bayer Interim Financial Statement on September 30, 2012, the company is only settling claims involving blood clot injuries, such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, Also, Bayer confirmed they have resolved nearly 3,500 injury claims for a total cost of nearly $750 million, or an average of approximately $214,000 per case. Anyone who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or Pulmonary Embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin is urged to contact the Drug Risk Resource Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options. The news comes as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists last month renewed warnings that birth control pills containing drospirenone such as Yaz and Yasmin may have a higher risk of causing blood clots, according to the Chicago Tribune on October 24, 2012. In October of 2011, the FDA released a study entitled "Combined Hormonal Contraceptives and the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Endpoints" which found that drugs like … Continue reading

Grapefruit-Drug Interactions Can Be Deadly
Posted: Published on November 27th, 2012
Researchers are now finding an increasing number of instances of dangerous drug interactions between various medications and grapefruit. The more serious side effects range from internal bleeding to kidney failure, heart abnormalities and sudden death. (A full list of susceptible drugs appears at the end of this article.) In a paper published Monday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, three Ontario-based researchers review recent case studies and articles examining grapefruit-drug interactions and call upon doctors to be aware of the potentially dangerous mixture of certain drugs and citrus fruits. "Unless health care professionals are aware of the possibility that the adverse event they are seeing might have an origin in the recent addition of grapefruit to the patient's diet, it is very unlikely that they will investigate it," the authors wrote. "In addition, the patient may not volunteer this information. Thus, we contend that there remains a lack of knowledge about this interaction in the general healthcare community." Between 2008 and 2012, the introduction of new medications and new formulations of existing drugs increased the number of substances with the potential for seriously dangerous interactions with grapefruit from 17 to 43. Overall, more than 85 drugs in circulation have the … Continue reading

Court Orders Drug Maker to Produce Evidence in Pradaxa Lawsuits
Posted: Published on November 27th, 2012
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 27, 2012 The judge overseeing litigation of Pradaxa bleeding lawsuits recently ordered manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim to produce evidence against safety claims by December 17th, according to a Case Management Order on November 21, 2012.* The order comes as the latest report from the Judicial Panel on MultiDistrict Litigation on November 14, 2012 shows the number of Pradaxa internal bleeding cases has increased 50% since September 5th.* On October 3, 2012, the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices QuarterWatch (PDF) estimated that prescription drug complaints to the FDA have risen 90% in the past 4 years, and two drugs, Pradaxa and Chantix, are responsible for 37% of that increase. Anyone affected by internal bleeding after taking Pradaxa is urged to speak with a lawyer about their legal options as soon as possible. Researchers disagree on the safety of Pradaxa. The Journal for The American Medical Association warned on September 3, 2012 that the FDA may have rushed its approval, overlooking key Pradaxa side effects like internal bleeding. In its latest study released November 4, 2012, however, the FDA stated that, for now, Pradaxa carries the same risk as other blood thinners. While all anticoagulants can cause internal bleeding, … Continue reading

‘Side-effects’ of prescription for cheaper medicines
Posted: Published on November 25th, 2012
Mumbai, Nov. 25: There will be a dip in medicine prices for consumers, on that there is little argument. The disagreement is on whether the price reduction will be meaningful and what impact will it have on drug-makers. Intense discussions have not abated even after the revised version of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy got its approval from the Cabinet last week. It was a consensus the Government scraped together, as the November 27 deadline of placing the policy before the Supreme Court was fast catching up. Medicine prices could see a five to 30 per cent reduction, say industry representatives, who base their preliminary estimates on the formula approved by the Government. Continuing with the market-price based method of calculation, the Government had decided to cap medicine prices at the simple average of drugs in a category with the one per cent market-share. The Government had also decided that all 348 medicines in the list of essential medicines be brought under price-control. As a result, prices could dip across segments like anti-infectives, antibiotics, diabetes and cardio-vascular drugs, to name just a few. A price reduction is expected on medicines that are market leaders. But there are several others where … Continue reading

New Epilepsy Drug From Fatty Acids

Featured Article Academic Journal Main Category: Epilepsy Also Included In: Pediatrics / Children's Health;Neurology / Neuroscience Article Date: 22 Nov 2012 - 3:00 PST Current ratings for: New Epilepsy Drug From Fatty Acids 3 (1 votes) 4.5 (2 votes) By pinpointing exactly which fatty acids in the ketogenic diet are effective in controlling seizures, the researchers, from University College London (UCL) and Royal Holloway, hope they will lead to new anti-epileptic treatments that offer the benefit of the diet without its side effects. An early "in press" report of their work was published online in the journal Neuropharmacology on 20 November. Professor Matthew Walker, of UCL's Institute of Neurology, speaks about the value of their findings in a press statement: "Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide and approximately a third of these people have epilepsy that is not adequately controlled by our present treatments. This discovery offers a whole new approach to the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsies in children and adults." The diet often works but draws criticism because it can lead to significant side effects such as constipation, low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), growth retardation and bone fractures. While it is not clear exactly how the ketogenic diet works, … Continue reading
