SOUNDING THE ALARM BOOK TOUR 2013 – Video

Posted: Published on January 26th, 2013

SOUNDING THE ALARM BOOK TOUR 2013 "A GREAT TESTIMONY FOR A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE" A book of poetry that is unadulterated, forthright, and transparent. It has a transformative connection to the Word of God and real life experiences. Deliverance from homosexuality, rape, molestation, molesting, drugs, alcohol, prostitution, HIV/AIDS and more... "This book, "Love Undeserved" is a uniquely interpretive work. It is a "great" second effort. His biblical referentials are "brilliant" and most appropriately placed. His poetry is an enticement to comprehension, it inspires understanding. His summations and parables touch home as commensurateness, by example, in our personal lives. The truth is the truth and he has told it as it relates to his personal life."-Malcolm Needom, Bi-partisan Voter Ed. FDA head and company CEOs cheer bumper haul of new drugs

Posted: Published on January 26th, 2013

DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - Pharmaceutical industry productivity is improving as a more targeted approach to drug development yields dividends and regulators offer speedier decisions on medicines that make a real difference to patients. That is the view of both the head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and drug company CEOs meeting in Davos this week at the World Economic Forum. "The products that we have approved in the last two years do give us real cause for optimism," FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg told Reuters. A total of 39 new drugs won approval last year - a record only beaten in 1996 - up from 30 in 2011, which itself was a marked improvement on the 21 cleared in 2010. The industry badly needs a winning streak after delivering poor returns for several years due to a wave of patent expires on older products and a notable failure to bring enough new drugs to market to replace them. The advance reflects progress in understanding the basic science of many diseases - notably some types of cancer - as well as smarter use of tests to target treatments to specific patient groups based on genetic profile. "Not only have we … Continue reading

X and Z in favor as companies name new drugs

Posted: Published on January 26th, 2013

(Reuters) - They may be difficult to pronounce, but pharmaceutical companies eager to grab the attention of doctors and patients are returning to drug names starting with X and Z. Recent X-branded names include prostate cancer treatment Xtandi, lung cancer drug Xalkori, and Xgeva for cancer that has spread to bone. The letter Z is also becoming popular for new drugs like Zaltrap for colon cancer, melanoma drug Zelboraf and prostate cancer treatment Zytiga. "The X and Z trend was pretty hot and heavy eight or nine years ago - that's when we had names like Zoloft, Zyban and Zocor," said Vince Budd, senior vice president at brand consulting firm Addison Whitney's healthcare division, referring to popular drugs for depression and high cholesterol. "It was seen as an opportunity to create something unique," said Budd. "I believe we have come full circle and we are back there again, especially in oncology." Of the 15 drugs with "X" appellations approved by the Food and Drug Administration since 1995, seven were launched in the last two and half years. Marketing and linguistics experts say the rarity of X and Z in most words make for memorable, unique names. They are also "fricative" … Continue reading

As Mexico's traffickers ship drugs north, they leave addicts in their wake

Posted: Published on January 26th, 2013

Exponential growth in the trafficking of drugs through Mexico destined for the large consumer market to the north is leaving a growing number of addicts in its wake. Heroin, crack cocaine, and methamphetamines were once unheard of in Mexico, but today rehabilitation centers are filled with addicts. Being the top supplier of illegal drugs to the US has made Mexico a consumer nation, too, as cartels have sought to expand the local market over the past decade. Illegal drug use in Mexico still well below levels in the United States rose 87 percent between 2002 and 2011, according to the latest national survey of addictions. In the survey, 1.5 percent of respondents reported having consumed illegal substances in the previous year, compared with 0.8 percent in 2002. And drug rehabilitation professionals caution that higher levels of use may exist, given that the data is self-reported. They also note that an alarming increase in drug use among women and adolescents between 2002 and 2008 has persisted, although the survey suggests overall illegal drug use has plateaued since 2008. RECOMMENDED: How much do you know about Mexico? Take our quiz. The reality is that in the organizations and institutions that work directly … Continue reading
