By Val Willingham, CNN updated 5:39 AM EST, Fri January 11, 2013 People taking insomnia drugs such as Ambien should consult their doctors before changing the dosage, the FDA says. STORY HIGHLIGHTS (CNN) -- The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday it is requiring manufacturers of insomnia products, such as Ambien, Edluar and Zolpimist, to lower their current recommended doses. The drugs contain an active ingredient called zolpidem, which causes drowsiness. Researchers have found high levels of zolpidem in the blood of some patients the morning after a dose -- so much so it affects patients' cognitive skills, including their ability to drive. The FDA said using lower doses of zolpidem will cut down on the amount of the drug found in the bloodstream the following morning. It also noted that the recommended dosage should be lower for women, because they don't process zolpidem out of their system as quickly as men. The agency recommended the dosage of zolpidem for women be lowered to 5 milligrams from 10 milligrams for immediate-release products and to 6.25 milligrams from 12.5 milligrams for extended-release products. New Jersey State Police recently seized drugs with a street value of nearly $6 million from a Cliffside Park home. According to New Jersey State Police officials, the drugs -- heroin and crystal methamphetamine, were seized Dec. 21 from a Nelson Avenue residence in the borough. The home is alleged to be a processing site for the illicit and illegal drugs. One arrest resulted from the seizure. Julio Cesar Mendoza, 34, of Manhattan, was arrested leaving the home with drugs strapped to his person. According to police, Mendoza walked outside the home and was arrested with two kilos of heroin secured around his waist. The kilos were shaped like thick insoles of shoes, possibly indicating the way they may have been smuggled into the country. After arresting Mendoza, detectives searched the home, leading them to another 16 pounds of heroin, large quantities of crystal methamphetamine and other items related to the narcotics trade, according to a state police statement. "If broken down into individual packages, the street value of the narcotics seized is estimated to be $6 million," state police said. 053 Just an Undergroung Hippie I've never been much interested in groupthink and this was how I navigated the sixties. I never spoke the lingo, never got into drugs, but I could relate to what a lot of folks were searching for and I learned a lot from that time of my life. Be very careful about signing TOTALLY onto any group. Whether it be a religion, a gun club, a gang, an artistic style, a style of music, a political party or membership in any group that expects a loyalty beyond what is naturally who you really are. This is difficult because we often join these groups at a time of vulnerability when we are seeking strength. We can learn much from the vast array of life perspectives.
