Sandy Hook shooter had no drugs in system

Posted: Published on May 15th, 2013

Toxicology tests show the Sandy Hook gunman, Adam Lanza, had no alcohol or drugs in his body when he shot and killed 20 first-graders and six women at the elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14. The tests were conducted as part of the autopsy by Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver II. Sources said his final report has been turned over to state prosecutors and investigators. Law enforcement sources familiar with the test results said that Lanza, 20, had no traces of alcohol or any illegal drugs such as cocaine or marijuana in his body. The sources also said that there was no trace of antidepressants or anti-psychotic medications. It is unclear whether Lanza took medication or used illegal drugs or alcohol. Search warrant records released by state police do not indicate whether drugs or alcohol were found when investigators searched the Newtown home Lanza shared with his mother. The warrants do indicate that unspecified medical records were found. Law enforcement sources have said that Lanza received some psychiatric care at an unspecified point and that state police obtained those records. Forensic pathologist Dr Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner in New York City, said the … Continue reading

You call those drugs what?

The synthetic cannabis named Kronic is legal to buy in Australia. Picture: Liam Driver Fiona Patten wants synthetic drugs to be renamed social tonics. Picture: Adam Ward SYNTHETIC drugs should be renamed "social tonics" to differentiate them from illicit substances, an Australian adult industry group has said. The Eros Association has controversially rebranded synthetic drugs - which are chemically-laced substances such as Kronic, a synthetic cannabis, sold over the counter at some adult-only shops and tobacconists - as "social tonics in industry material. "When you start saying its a synthetic of an illicit substance it makes it illicit by word association," Fiona Patten, the founder of the Eros Association, said. "Calling it a social tonic takes it out of that. It makes it very clear theyre very different from illicit substances." But Dr Steve Hambleton, the Australian Medical Associations president and one of the country's leading doctors, said the branding was disingenuous as it put a positive spin on a dangerous product. Dr Hambleton said the word "tonic" suggested the drugs consisted of vitamins or were a mixtures of juices. Most adult stores remove illegal substances in line with federal and state government bans. But the bans, described as a … Continue reading
