Warning issued to those buying illegal drugs online

Posted: Published on February 12th, 2013

Published: 3:16PM Monday February 11, 2013 Source: ONE News Source: Thinkstock People buying illegal drugs over the internet have been warned they will be caught and prosecuted. The warning from police comes after a man was sentenced last week at Christchurch District Court for importing drugs through an overseas website. Simon Lim, 27, was prosecuted under the Misuse of Drugs Act after customs officials linked him to packages containing small quantities of drugs which were intercepted at the International Mail Centre a year ago. The packages contained cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, hashish, ketamine and cannabis. Lim was sentenced to 18 months supervision after pleading guilty to importing Class A, Class B and Class C drugs, as well as possession of a Class C drug and possession of a utensil used to consume controlled drugs. "This prosecution should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can buy illegal drugs online for personal use and get away with it," said customs manager investigations, Mark Day. "We will not hesitate to prosecute, no matter what the quantity." He said police are increasingly coming across people ordering drugs online, and said such websites are monitored. Innovative Drugs May Win U.S. Approval After Early Trials

Posted: Published on February 12th, 2013

Drugmakers may win approval from U.S. regulators for breakthrough therapies after a single round of studies, rather than three, in an effort to speed them to patients, a Food and Drug Administration official said. The agency assigned three experimental medicines the new status to try to reduce the time needed to get them to market against deadly diseases, Janet Woodcock, director of the FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said yesterday in an interview before a Bloomberg health conference in New York. Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. said last month that two of its drugs for cystic fibrosis had won the designation. Breakthrough status means the companies will have closer communication with top FDA staff to move drugs for serious diseases to market more quickly, potentially with data from an expanded Phase 1 trial, Woodcock said. Improved understanding of diseases is leading to more candidates for this status. We expect many of these would come available very quickly with Phase 1 data, Woodcock said. New drugs generally need three phases of clinical testing on safety and effectiveness to win FDA approval. In addition to the three treatments that have won the new designation, 18 other drugs have applied, most for types … Continue reading

Six clubs quizzed in drugs probe

Posted: Published on February 12th, 2013

Anti-doping officials have met with six top-flight Australian rugby league clubs over the use of banned performance-enhancing drugs. The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency (ASADA) spoke to Manly, Cronulla, Newcastle, Penrith, North Queensland and Canberra. The six clubs revealed they were under scrutiny following a report into the use of drugs published last week. The year-long investigation also implicated two Australian Rules teams. "Sports would be foolish to think that they didn't need to take the integrity of their sport seriously," said sports minister Kate Lundy. Nick Bryant BBC News, Sydney "Australia loves sport and hates cheats, and these allegations offend a strong, ingrained sense of fair play. Australians like winning for sure, but not at all costs. In Aussie Rules, one of the country's most popular sporting codes, players with disciplinary infringements are not even considered for the game's highest honour, the Brownlow Medal. And that's the way fans like it." "The substance of the issue here is that we do have a fight on our hands. It's a serious one. "Australians take their sport extremely seriously and as sport minister I will not stand by to allow this kind of thing to go on in Australian sport unchecked." The … Continue reading

Breake Away from Vicious Cycle #1 Asthma is considered to be a physical condition but it is formed as a combination of emotional and physical aspects. Due to the severity of the symptoms, the majority of professionals tend to overlook the emotional aspect. The asthma sufferer relaxes his symptoms with drugs and is not realizing that his asthma condition is a learned process. Long term stressful emotions wear down the functionality of the respiratory system and "teach" negatively how to breathe in a dysfunctional way.
